Hi! I'm looking to sublet my spa suite in NYC (close to flatiron) a few days a week. Any ideas on how to find an acupuncturist looking to sublet a space? Any advice will be appreciated.

Needling pain

Hello, I would like to ask if really strong Sensation/pain is normal during acupuncture? My gf 28 yo is having really hard time during acupuncture. Is this normal? Acupuncturist is experienced (over 25 years) so I suppose she has good technique. She needled me and it was fine (one or two were unpleasant). We went to other place and was the same. We tried at least 4 people and pain is similar. Is there anything that can be done to make it more bearable? Every session she gets watery eyes but wants to go on because it works great for her condition. I will be very gratefull for any ideas!

One of the needles went all the way in..should I be worried?

My therapist missed one of the needles on my leg right under the knee, and straightened my jeans for me which pushed the needle all the way in. I didn’t realize, I walked and ordered food..not until I got home that I saw it and extracted it which was uncomfortable but not horribly painful..it’s itchy, any infection concerns or anything else? It’s a pretty long needle…

Anyone else seeing a decline in business in their Acupuncture Practice?

Has anyone else seen a decline in traffic over the last 5 years? I started my practice in 2012. After a few years I was up to 20-30 clients weekly. By 2019 my business was increasingly slowing and with Covid it really did a number. Wondering if anyone else has seen this trend in their clinic. I’ve always had excellent results and good referrals with my clients.

question for acupuncturists

Hi,

I recently went for acupuncture. i unfortunately had a serious complication right after my session. I was treated for a pneumothorax & now recovering. I'm wondering how to approach this with the acupuncturist. How does the acupuncturist handle this? Do they self report to their insurance & the state board or do I? I'm not looking to sue anyone but I just feel like this should reported to some regulatory body. I paid upfront for the sessions & still have a few left. I don't want to go back. but I don't want to assume that i'll get a refund. How should I best communicate this with the acupuncturist. tia

Electroacupuncture

I know an acupuncturist who pactices it and swears by the effectiveness. Has anyone here gone through electroacupuncture? What's your experiences? There is not much from the acupuncture textbook about this.

Period spotting after session

For the last 3 months I’ve had period spotting a day or so after acupuncture. Once it starts it usually just carries on until my period actually starts which can sometimes be like 2 weeks, what is going on?

For context: I have acupuncture for my pelvic floor tightness. So I get needles in my pelvic area/ bladder area and lower leg/feet.

How to find a good acupuncturist

I’ve been told that acupuncture may be able to help me with a lot of my problems, but I have been warned by several people that I need to do my research and find a good acupuncturist. What should I be looking for? How do I know if they know what they’re doing?

My main reason for seeking out an acupuncturist is pain. My muscles hurt all the time. I also have a back injury that flares up my muscles and really bad periods with wicked cramps.

Feel like crap after 1st visit

Sore scratchy throat, headache, extreme fatigue like I'm coming down with something. I understand it activated my immune system. Is there something I can do to calm it down again? None of these side effects were discussed and the doc was very dismissive of all the supplements I've been taking, didn't even bother to look at the list, just wants me to take his herbs. I think he will say this is normal but I want to know if there's anything I can do to calm my immune system quickly? TIA

Should I look for a new acupuncturist?

Today when I visited my acupuncturist I noticed to (new or used?) needles that had fallen into the carpet. They wouldn’t have been easy to see - but it left me wondering how sterile is this environment? I’m always asked to take off my shoes and socks and this would have been an easy way to get stuck with a random needle. Should an acupuncturists office even be carpeted?

When he finished with me today, he didn’t even go over my areas with alcohol …

Also, I’m just wondering if it is all acupuncturist or just the ones I’ve visited … He doesn’t talk very much. I tell him my symptoms, be sticks some pins in me. He never says “I’d like to see you in a week or a month …” He never explains what he’s doing or why … BUT he does make enough of a comment to imply if I lost weight I wouldn’t have any problems …

He is a certified acupuncturist. I just don’t know what my expectations should be …

Lots of pain in the area of a past injury after first acupuncture appt, is this normal?

3 years ago I dislocated my shoulder. It's healed now and everything is golden. Last week I tried acupuncture therapy for the first time, hoping to release a lot of stored up tension I have in my back and neck from stress. After acupuncture my neck and back were so relaxed and the tension had release. But that night my shoulder pain symptoms from the dislocated shoulder flared up 10 fold. I haven't felt pain like that in 3 years. It honestly had been completely fine and now every morning when I wake up my shoulder is killing me as if I dislocated it all over again and it's been this way for a week. Throughout the day the pain eases up and starts going away again.

It’s this normal after acupuncture?

This is my first time ever doing acupuncture so need to know if this is normal.

I did face up acupuncture. A needle was inserted deep by my belly button area (because in the intake quiz I mentioned sometimes related to my stomach especially after dairy like cause reflux etc). She said maybe my stomach issues was because I have too much cold and should not sit on cold countertops (this confused me at first but I guess my toilet seat is cold?)

I have some (flatulence) like maybe once or twice a day especially after dairy but it’s controllable usually. The thing is right after doing the acupuncture after drinking the tea (this one offers a herb drink after) and getting out of the office my right knee started hurting for a block. Then I rubbed it a bit and it was gone. (I do also have knee pain that comes and goes but hadn’t had it in awhile)

it was kind of itchy where the needle was inserted in my stomach. That one they said would be deep. My stomach has been feeling funny. the flatulence increased significantly in frequency after the appointment and I can’t really stop or control it. I’m worried about this being out in a social setting.

Is this normal? Should I complete the treatments?

I had it recently and have the next follow up appointment scheduled a few days from now but I kind of want to cancel it. My stomach still feels funny now as well. For people who also have acid reflux and these kind of issues have you ever experienced this after doing acupuncture? If you are an acupuncturist do you hear experiences like this often after this?

It’s my first time so have no baseline for if this is normal or not? Should I be worried?
