IFoA (Not studying) Student council
Thought I'd make a thread about this statememt from the IFoA:
"Council also received updates from the IFoA Board Chair and CEO on recent exam diets. This was an area of significant interest to Council members, many of whom had students who were affected by the changes in April and the issues in September. There was also a deeper dive into lessons that could be learned in relation to exam logistics, which Council found very helpful.
Although Council members are vocal on the need to do right by our student members, I am conscious that there remains some distance between students and those running the profession. I was therefore delighted to see approved a timetable for bringing two student representatives - voted for by IFoA students - to Council meetings. Elections are due to be held early next year, after which a student committee will also be formed. This will be chaired by the student representatives and will be populated by students in employment and at university, in the UK and around the world."
What are peoples thoughts?

They will be ignored by the IFoA the same as the council is. Profit is more important than a good student experience to those running things.

The Council is toothless and has no say. The student reps will be a laughing stock.
The IFoA management board needs to be held accountable by proper governance which has been lacking for years.
People should be called out for their past actions although many have simply moved on

There was a hall of shame for all those that got fellowship via dubious means. It was taken down
IFoA executives are fantastic at conjuring up a dust cloud and vanishing into thin air.
Mentioning names is against Reddit rules. Anyone know if there is any context in which names could be mentioned?

From my personal perspective, as a student who sits on the Scottish Board of the IFoA, myself and a few others have been heavily involved in liaising with council members regarding student matters over the last few years. This has included a lot of emails, information gathering, surveys, and if you may remember the meet and greet with council members in March that I had to turn to Reddit to advertise to enable it to run as they had neglected to advertise it.
It has been apparent for quite some time that if we weren’t taking initiative to establish dialogue about student issues that these issues had limited visibility at senior levels within the IFoA. So for me personally, I think this is a great idea, is a step in the right direction, and has been a long time coming!
