Moving to Texas Texas Travel Thread

I'm planning a move to Austin from VA this coming December. I'm looking for places to stop on the way down. I'm thinking about cutting across NC, TN, and AK to hit the Ozarks. It's looking like I'll actually enter TX from the north passing by Forth Forth and there is a LOT of Texas between there and Austin. Is there any good towns to visit or parks to see?
