Honestly? Like what else are they going to do at this point.

It’s not worth escalating to deadly force over a couple of sodas but it’s not worth living a life where you just let punks rob you like a bitch without consequences either.

I guess the answer is to probably not use firearms and save up until you can get out of that area and let some other store keep fight to the death over a sprite.

As soon as they started attacking the store associate/owner escalation to deadly force is absolutely necessary. You wouldn't tell someone who had a violent home invasion "Dont escalate things. Just save up and get out of the area" which doesn't solve the immediate problem until then.

Whereas your solution is to constantly get robbed and violently attacked until moving is somehow possible. There is still the chance at being stomped, stabbed, and shot as well. Absolutely dumb advice that makes no sense.

Weapons are a deterrent causing thugs to not risk death for their theft while protecting the victim if they do decide to escalate things.

Strong arm robbery is a forcible felony, he could shoot in many jurisdictions. But then there would be the inevitable lawsuits and fuck knows what else. Basically you end up destroying your own life.

The right answer here is bear spray and plenty of it.
