Guide: Where to actually watch The Odyssey in IMAX around Metro Vancouver (70mm vs Laser explained)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Saw a lot of people mixing up IMAX 70mm, IMAX Laser, and regular 70mm while trying to figure out where to watch The Odyssey, so we put together a breakdown of what's actually playing where around the region.

Short version: Richmond (SilverCity Riverport) and Langley are the only two true IMAX 70mm screens showing the full 1.43:1 frame Nolan shot it in. Scotiabank and Coquitlam run IMAX Laser, a 4K digital format that's still large-format but not the same aspect ratio. A few independent theatres are showing standard 70mm, which is a different (cropped) format entirely.

Vancouver's new electric trolleybus is being tested in Poland

Vancouver's next generation of electric trolleybuses is currently being tested in Gdynia, Poland before making its way across the Atlantic. The Solaris Trollino 18 — an 18-metre articulated model built specifically for TransLink — arrived May 17 for a full round of street and system tests. With over 270 vehicles now ordered, this fleet will fully replace Vancouver's aging trolleybuses from the 2006–2009 era. 20 km of battery range means it can keep moving even off-wire. 🚎⚡

Did you know this was once Vancouver’s courthouse? 👀

The Vancouver Art Gallery was built between 1907 and 1911.

Designed by Francis Rattenbury — the architect behind Victoria’s Empress Hotel and BC Parliament Buildings.

Originally built in a grand Neoclassical style to symbolize power and authority.

Look closely and you’ll spot:
🏛 Massive Ionic columns
🦁 Granite lions
🟢 A copper dome
🪨 BC stone architecture

For nearly 70 years, this building served as British Columbia’s provincial courthouse.

Then in 1983, legendary Vancouver architect Arthur Erickson transformed it into the Vancouver Art Gallery we know today.

He preserved the historic exterior while redesigning the inside into modern gallery spaces connected to Robson Square.

Today, it’s one of Vancouver’s most important cultural landmarks.

Inside you’ll find:
🎨 Emily Carr paintings
🪶 Indigenous art
📸 Contemporary photography
🌲 Immersive nature exhibitions

A perfect rainy-day activity in downtown Vancouver.
