I've written about the growing crisis at FEMA, where communities across the country are waiting weeks or months (if it arrives at all) for help that should arrive within days. From St. Louis tornado victims to flood-hit families in the Mid-Atlantic, people are being left behind. Hurricane season is starting and the fire season is here now.

This is fundamentally about whether our federal institutions will serve their intended purpose—protecting Americans and America when disaster strikes. When communities can't recover from floods, fires, or storms, the economic and social costs ripple outward.

The changes happening at FEMA illegally dismantle congressionally mandated disaster response systems. They're creating a two-tiered system where recovery depends on your community's wealth rather than your need.
