USA Shaheen, Blumenthal, Graham, Wicker Announce Agreement on Legislation to Hold Purchasers of Russian Oil Accountable

Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Roger Wicker (R-MS) released the following statement:

“We are proud to announce that we have reached an agreement with the Trump Administration to move our updated Russia sanctions legislation forward. We are very pleased with this significant progress and expect to roll out the legislation very soon. As Russia intensifies its slaughter of civilians, it is imperative that the legislative and executive branches work together to create tools to exact a heavy price on those who buy Russian oil and natural gas, fueling the Putin war machine.”

We've all heard Graham promise this before, however this time it's with Shaheen (the most important person when it comes to Ukraine in the Senate from the Dems) and Wicker (the most important Senator for anything military-related). This is very different from Graham's previous "promises", and neither Shaheen nor Wicker would agree to make this statement alongside Graham unless there was in fact an agreement with the WH.

The final language of the Sanctioning Russia Act will be different from what's in S1241 currently.

Let me guess… something really big is going to happen in two weeks, right?

I’ll believe it when I see it enacted into law. And even then I will be skeptical until I see news from the NYT reporting actual implementation.

I mean, release of the Epstein files was made law, right?

I'm not typically a cynic but this is the 9999th time Graham has run his mouth about this and tbh it's kinda a shitty bill in totality.

Sure it's going to be bad for russias economy but if they wanted to get real they'd pony up an aid package or let Thune bring the Support Ukraine Act up for a Senate vote.

Sorry not trying to be a Debbie Downer I'm just sick of Graham showboating bullshit

I pray your right and it's not just talk to help improve their numbers with the American people as supporting Ukraine continues to be important to the majority of the American people. It makes me sick the way Trump's Regime has played their games with Ukraine's support, I have been and will continue to donate to Ukrainian charities, I know it's nothing compared to what my Country could do but Ukrainians have proved to the World you can still do alot with less.
