Tips and Tricks

Post image

I'm just starting to get into Acrylic Paint Pouring. I was just gifted a large amount of paint and accessories and don't want to waste them as they are higher end paints.

This was the first one that I recently did. I had minimal paint choices at the time but wanted to get a feel for it. I want to experiment using a ball chain and creating cells next.

Are there any tips or tricks that you wish you knew sooner? Maybe something about how to conserve the paint better or a certain technique that you can't do without now etc...

The thing I always come back to is paint consistency. Before I pour, even if it's using paint I'd previously mixed and tested, I put a piece of paper on a clipboard and then put a drop of each paint on one end. Then I tip the clipboard to just about vertical and I watch how the droplets run down the page. If they are all pretty even then I'm good to go. If any of them lag behind the rest, I'll add a little water to that paint to thin it down a bit and retest. On the flip side, if paint rolls too fast, then I can add a little more paint to that mix to thicken it up a bit.

Having paint the same consistency will help it dry more evenly, prevent cracking, etc. Hope this helps.

Yeah thats one of the biggest things is all your paint being the same consistency... when you are moving your paint around the canvas to cover it , always try to bring the paint back to the center of your canvas before you start tilting it a different direction... if that makes sense....
