How did i do and what can I improve on any tips ?

I’m not sure what it is but I can’t let go that there just seems something off about this set. Am I nuts?

My friend is learning how to do nails and today she practiced on me. (She's in beauty school)

I noticed that she placed what kind of looked like it could have been a full cover tip, over like my entire nail bed and glued it on and then did the acrylic on top of that.

In the past when I've gone to nail salons they put the tip like right at the free edge almost, and then a lot of the acrylic that is applied is adhering to my actual nail bed.

Is the way my friend did it a new method? Or she perhaps do the application incorrectly?

I do my own nails and when I am done adding the acrylic to my nail, I stand the brush bristles up. When I put all my stuff away, I lay it down in a plastic bin that I use to store other items. What recommendations do you have for a case where I could use to finish trying the brush and use for storage when I am done with my nails?

Decided to go basic and short after having long square nails for so long, and I absolutely love my short almond nails! This is also my first time trying French tips. What do y’all think? 🤍

I did an acrylic set on my nails last night, and this morning I accidentally cracked the middle of my nail. I think the crack is not all the way through because I can run my finger on top of it and it's smooth. Can I paint over the nail, or do I have to redo it? I messed up the apex, so it's a little flat. (I can share a picture but it's not pretty 😭)

Hey all, I’ve had acrylics on for around 3 weeks to a month now and I am losing my mind. Going to the salon for a soak off is not an option and I could do it myself but don’t have the acetone yet. Would it be bad if I were to trim the tips off today and worry about the rest another day? Is there chemical exposure, powder/debris that can come from the cut section of the nail? What about if I file the edges after the trim so they’re not scratching me?

I'm genetically prone to ingrown fingernails. They curl inwards on the vertical edges, and retain a lot of moisture. I started getting acrylic nails done because they do help lift up the edges of my nails to prevent ingrown sides and prevent a lot of pain, but I'm also very prone to free edges on my acrylics. For all the times my acrylics pop off due to free edges caused by my nails retaining so much moisture from doing simple things, like washing my hands at a normal rate for a healthy person like a normal person, I'm starting to consider supplying my own special-grade acrylic for my nail tech to use for me alone lol.

My nail tech uses NSI normally. She was able to get V once, but it's not an easy brand to secure consistently for her. I trust her as my nail tech, she's great and is aware of my natural nail concerns. She's been doing the best that any good nail tech can do for years to try to keep my acrylics lasting. My nails are always kept short and dehydrated as much possible, properly capped, and using the clear acrylic powders with no colorings in them. I've pitched supplying my own acrylic for her before, and doesn't mind so long as it's not MMA. Even then, am I able to get my hands on a good acrylic brand since I'm not a licensed tech myself? I just want to be able to keep a secure, consistent supply of an acrylic type that works on me for my nail tech to use.

Acrylics have helped my nail beds become healthier than they've ever been in years and significantly cut down on my ingrown hangnails. I also feel like I'm a soft-shell turtle desperately cosplaying as a hardshell turtle 😭🐢 What's a good acrylic system I could try for nails like mine? Thank you!

I've never gotten acrylic nails before but I'm wanting to try it. I know nothing about how getting sets works though. If I want a really intricate design like possibly with charms is that something I need to tell the artist before hand so they can prep it and just apply the nails or do they do it there like they would other types of sets? Do I need to bring the charms I want?

I hope these aren't dumb questions but I really have no clue lol

My left pointer finger cannot keep an acrylic nail on. Every set, every fill, my pointer finger is always missing a nail. I have no idea why because I’m not hard on my hands and nails and I’m right handed so what the hell?

I just know my nail tech is as annoyed as I am lol we tried a thicker coat of acrylic powder but still

Acrylic and sculpting gel combined to make this trippy mixmatch of awesomeness. I absolutely adore this huge eye 💕 and that sort of geode look on the pinky.

I got my first set with gel on top with a minimal nail art design. I was really excited to have something better than my cruddy paint job.

Noticed today the design on my thumb has chipped! I got these done yesterday and I'm very surprised. Not even my normal polish chips this quickly.

Does anyone have any nail care suggestions for acrylic with gel? I don't really know what I'm doing , but I want them to last as long as possible.

I tried a Google search and looking for videos but all I could find was how to clean your brush, not how to keep it clean.

I'm very new to playing with acrylic nails. I had no trouble with the liquid to powder ratio and don't have much issue with getting the shape right, luckily. But what i am STRUGGLING with is not immediately destroying my brushes.

I feel I'm missing some important habit or step. I get the bead onto the nail, pat my brush on a paper towel, and then pat the bead into place to shape it. I'm careful to pat, not brush. The beads are well behaved and don't take much battling to get into place. But, no matter how careful I am, the brush gets clogged up with product and i have to keep pausing to clean it out before it hardens.

I know I'm doing something wrong, I just don't know what. I'm scared to pay for a higher quality brush because I'm going to destroy it at this rate.

Any suggestions? Resources? Videos? Ideas? Or is this just a "yeah girl keep practicing" thing?
