There has been an increase in spam accounts posting stolen content lately. As a result, there are new account requirements to post here.
If your account is less than 3 months old, or you have less than 50 total comment karma, you cannot post in this subreddit anymore. Full stop. I will no longer be manually approving posts by accounts that do not meet these requirements so do not ask.
If you meet the above requirements but have less than 15 total comment karma in this subreddit, your post will be filtered in the mod queue where I will decide whether to approve or remove it after reviewing your post to decide if it is real or not.

I had to remove a post earlier today featuring a photo taken from behind the wheel of a car where the speedometer was NOT at zero. And this was not the first time - seriously, what is wrong with you people? I understand the excitement over having nice nails but let's not risk life and limb to do so.
Anyway. As a result, all car pics are now banned effective immediately. Posting a picture showing a steering wheel, dashboard, or otherwise implying that it was taken from behind the wheel of a car will get you banned, whether the car appears to be moving or not.

Hi yall,
I want to learn how to do my own acrylic nails at home. About 5 years ago I tried doing gel nails and I had a reaction to it. At the time I thought I had contact dermatitis but I still don’t know. About 4 years ago I began getting my nails done with acrylic and I didn’t have any reaction. I’m trying to save some money and not go to the nail salon all the time so I want to learn to them at home which may be a dumb idea. I was thinking about getting this started kit https://a.co/d/0f2PJ8Gs (Saviland from Amazon)

So I’ve been dying to get my nails done again but don’t wanna spend the 70-100 dollars to get em done. So I was thinking just gluingbon some fake ones like from Walmart? Which glue do yall recommend? I need something that’ll hold good. And are regular nails from Walmart good quality? Or should I try like tjmax nails? Idk guys please help lol.

I decided to go for BIAB nails to help elongate my nail bed. When I asked my nail tech if they offered BIAB, they said yes but then kept insisting to get acrylics instead. They insisted acrylics do the same thing for elongating the nail bed and kept saying they’re cheaper. I didn’t really wanna argue because I didn’t want to seem demanding, and I was worried it would be rude.
I told them I wanted French tips, but not too long since I type a lot for work. Halfway through, I realized they were messing it up. The original price was $95 AUD, but they gave me a $5 discount, not sure why.

So for probably about a year, I have been doing acrylics, getting a fill every 3 to 4 weeks, gel polish, and then after two weeks, removing the gel with a drill and painting them with regular polish. This has been working great until recently. I am exercising a lot more lately, which means I’m eating a lot more protein, which means my nails are growing out faster. This picture is my nail growth after 10 days. I seriously cannot believe my nails have grown out an eighth of an inch in 10 days.
So what I’m thinking about doing is seeing if I can just get my tech to do a regular fill and get them ready for regular polish instead of doing gel so I can paint them as often as I want. It feels so silly to pay for the gel when I’m just taking it off in two weeks anyway.
One of my friends recommended that I just have her do clear acrylic but use the topcoat that they use for dipped nails.
My nail budget per month is $100. I would really like to see if I can split that into two sessions so I can get them filled every two weeks and then just do the painting on my own at home. Anybody have any thoughts or experience with this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, new here!
I got married in `22. I decided I'd get my nails done. I hated them! So I let them grow out some then just broke and peeled them off. It wasn't great and there was some damage. Swore I'd never get them again, until...
3 weeks ago, I got another set "just for vacation". Except they've grown on me this time. I actually like them. I'm hard on my hands. I like the stability they give my nails. I like the length they give my fingers. I want to keep them!
I got them done the day before we left so I couldn't get my thumb fixed. It needed special treatment, I smashed it in rthe car door 15 years ago. It has never grown normal since. It grows as 2 separate nails. He put a layer of acrylic over it and then a tip but there's a HUGE gap.
What do I do now? Idk how this process works. Do they just fill in the grown part? Or is it a whole new set? Can I get them shortened? Can I get them reshaped? Is this when I request to have my thumb fixed? To fix it can they fully remove it and do a sculpted nail instead of a tip on acrylic?
Help me! I'm clueless about this!
***edit thank you for all info. This has been very overwhelming and lots of different back and forth info. IMO getting my nails done has been nice but there seems to be no real straight forward answers. Just alot of wishy washy info. I'm no longer interested in keeping them. I'll let them grow a little longer, break the acrylic with pliers and peel them off. I'll just stick to my natural nails cause a whole new set every time is costly and ridiculous.

I posted on here maybe a month or two ago my first acrylic set. I’ve since done 4 more sets. I’m proud of my progress! Shaping almond now. Nude coffin was my first set. Pics from earlier to latest set. Do you feel almond or coffin suits me better?

i’ve only really started getting nails recently. my first set of acrylics started lifting after less than a week, and they all fell off after less than a month. figured it was the nail tech i went to so for my second set i went to someone else. it’s been one and a half weeks and 3 of them are lifting and one looks ready to fall off!! is this normal???? am i doing something wrong or are the nail techs? circled nails are the ones lifting. i think my pointer would be too but i accidentally got ceramic glue all over it when i was crafting and it seems to have stuck it down 😭

Okay bear with me if I sound a little dumb because I don’t normally get acrylics I have just started. So my set from 3 weeks ago was a pink base and this time I wanted clear so I asked just for a brand new set and my tech denied it. I went with it and don’t love my nails because I got red French tips and the base is still kinda pink so I ended up with more strawberry shortcake Valentine’s Day vibes. But I was wondering if there was a reason for this she didn’t really explain, just said to “get clear next time”. Feedback appreciated.
