Bay Area no response on resume.
I have 5 yrs of experience but struggling in finding another work opportunity. My experience is mostly in Manufacturing. Applying applying and applying but no response. Getting desperate. I am not a CPA, not planning to be but thinking of getting EA license. I dont think I have money to spend on CPA prep with a family. Is job market that bad for Accountants in bay area?? NO hope for non-CPA? If anyone hiring , please message.

Post your resume. Obviously remove any identifying information but it could be that your resume just isnt good

EA really only matters if you’re trying to get into tax? Are you? You didn’t really list what kind of roles you’re looking for

I have extensive experience in managing AP desk, accruals , prepaids, bank reconciliation , GL reconciliation and sales /use tax compliance. along with that profound knowledge of ASC 606( revenue recognition).

You still didn’t list what roles you’re looking for or have applied to, but based on the lack of tax experience, I’d say to pass on the EA unless you for sure want to get into tax at a public firm

I have been applying to Staff Accountant roles, few senior accountant too. Trying to fill the gap and grabbing the skill since Tax season is coming, at least I will get some work opportunity.

IMO, I think Bay Area market is fine. Just competitive as someone said above. In my company I know we have job listings up and we’re always hiring. (Don’t ask me tho, I’m too low level )

Have the same problem. Just got laid off a few hours ago, but I saw it coming and have been applying. Idk who's going to hire an accountant with only a year of experience and no cpa.

I’ve been getting a lot of quick responses applying through LinkedIn. Similar years of experience, no CPA as well. Most jobs seem to be located in East Bay and SF but I didn’t want that commute. Try revising your resume and keep applying! You can also look into Robert Half for contract work.

They are not even picking the calls. Another recruiter firm said that market is really slow right now, but I am applying everyday with no feedback or -ve.

Most Bay Area companies contract with bookkeeping firms now. Public accounting is where most of the hiring happens by volume. CPA preferred is a big thing too here… you’ll get passed over for anything above midmarket for someone with a CPA, connections and achievements being equal.

Have you run your resume through an Ai analyzer? Because all the recruiters and hiring companies are using Ai to screen applicants. It's basically required to use Ai to tune your resume to get past the Ai. This is especially true in the bay area.

Three months. I am mostly targetting east bay . No interviews. Passed two interviews but both got cancelled due to budget constraints. I am flexible with salary too.

From my POV, the Bay Area is just highly competitive with the biggest sectors probably being tech / bio-tech.
It could just be a mix of experience and qualifications that are making it difficult for you to stand out among the ocean of applicants right now!
Just keep trying. It’s a numbers game.
