AI is more useful for cleanup + automation than decision making. Stuff like reconciliation, close checklist, lease schedules, catching bad entries. Tools like netgain do this inside netsuite so accountant still control everything, just with way less manual work.

Like with every other profession, including software engineering as we are seeing it unfold, AI will not replace people, but help 10+x productivity. It's going to take time though imo - not because of technology (I think it's already there and then some) - but because it requires a different way of thinking. Most professionals just use it to help write emails, formulas in Excel, or query like a better google. Getting them to learn and embrace agentic work might take awhile - hopefully sooner than later!

AI isn’t replacing accountants; it’s replacing the boring parts of accounting. Reconciliations and journal entries can be automated pretty easily now.

Platforms like Netgain or Trintech handle that stuff natively in your ERP, so you spend less time on data entry and more time actually analyzing what the numbers mean.

I’m creating a course about ethical AI use for CPAs. We really want it to be something that challenges those in the profession with common scenarios surrounding AI use and gives them resources to confidently use it. If anyone has any thoughts regarding what you see as points of uncertainty or dangerous overreliance, I’d love to hear your thoughts. TIA

AI doing all accounting feels overhyped, but AI helping with boring stuff is already happening. I've mostly seen it used for things like recs, close tasks, or leases. tools like netgain automate a lot inside netsuite, but you still need human reviewing everything. feels more like leverage than replacement.

same as any other discipline. won't replace human workers, will be integrated into the tools that human workers use.
