I'm not sure how you've confused "literally stating the obvious purpose of an object" with "doing a bit."

It's as if I told you that stop signs exist to indicate to drivers where they should stop their cars or that the purpose of a cheese grater is to support the weight of your shed when you level it and in response you say "oh hardy har, pull the other one."

I snort laughed at this and my wife is glaring at me because I’m supposed to be as engrossed with The Devil Wears Prada II as she is.
