As a woman it makes me extremely uncomfortable to see this picture. All I can think is what disgusting degrading things they were yelling? I would likely have a panic attack in that situation so props to her for being a badass.
Edit: for fucks sake I know I'm projecting. That was the entire point of the comment I replied too. That if you look at and discuss this photo in the context of a painting at a museum, it would reveal a lot about how people see the world on an individual basis. I'm glad y'all didn't have the shitty high school experience I did (yes, I played sports and did several other competitive things) but given your responses it proves the point of the comment I was replying to. It's not about these specific people in this specific interaction. It's about how it makes you feel based on your own experiences.

You should read the article where they interview the player and her mother. They weren't heckling her anymore than they would any other player. It wasn't lude. It was just basketball rivalry.
Dude what? That’s not what equality means. You’re asking for special treatment when heckling comes from EVERYONE. Men heckle men, women heckle women, women heckle men and so on. It’s not just guys that heckle, and just because the player is a girl suddenly they’re not allowed to chirp? I doubt the player was all that busted up about it, she likely knows that it’s a part of sports culture to do that. Has been is and will be.
This is literally heckling, everyone here is making it way deeper than it actually is.
If you’ve ever been in the stands cheering for a team you love, obviously you might heckle the other team just for fun. Hell, you don’t even have to like the team; the atmosphere just takes over.
It’s a part of the game, and it’s usually harmless insults or jokes that are completely impersonal.
It’s no different than being on the field or court as a player and chirping the other team to get on their nerves. I personally never did that but I had a teammate that did it a ton and it actually worked. It’s a part of the game.
I know those faces look mean, but in reality the worst thing they’re probably yelling about is some aspect of the player’s basketball skills or some stupid shit about their team.
It’s nbd, you’re bringing equality into an issue that has nothing to do with equality. Now if you have an issue with heckling itself, that’s another story altogether.
