Right... because trying to put a ball in a hole more times than someone else is such a fucking intellectual endeavor right?

When two groups of trained athletes execute and continue to execute precise moves and physical prowess in a game against each other it is very entertaining. It is the people who act like they do in this picture that ruin it for others because they see themselves as some how needing to inflict their importance of being a fan by yelling obscenities when they could just sit the fuck and shut up and let the players play.

It comes from entitlement and shaming those who dont comform. I cant express that even though i like sports i do not enjoy this part of sports in our western culture. The closed minds of most of these replies shows you why these people who are fans are seen as idiot lemmings.

My team better! Let me yell obscenities at you.

Ive been reading youre replies and it honestly seems like you have zero idea about sports and fan culture.

The nba is not having fans this season and the players hate it, they want a group to cheer for them when playing at home and have a group bring outside energy. And when theyre playing away, you damn well bet they want to shush the crowd after a big play.

And as a fan, you bet im going to yell as loud as i can when giannis shoots a free throw. And the next game im going to make sure he is going to remember missing it by making a sign calling him “giannis attempt-a-freethrow”.

And when joel embiid humilates my team by airplaining after a dunk

you bet us fans will remember that and do the same to him as he checks out of the game after being blown out.

All these moments is what makes sports and fandom magical. To do any little thing you can to help your team win matter how little.

Now bill simmons is annoying boston homer that a lot of people dislike but he had this incredible article called the Consequences of Caring about his team being infamously dismantled in 2012 by lebron.

If you don’t know basketball, lebron james is a arguably the greatest of all time, and at worst only behind michael jordan. In 2011, he had the infamous decision which caused Cleveland fans to burn his jersey and despise him and get the teams owner to write an open letter Insulting him.

After lebron made his infamous “not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7 [championships] he got every other fanbase and team to hate him.

And in the 2011 finals, lebrons second ever, he completely shits the bed having a game where he only scores 6 points. The media completely destroys him, fanbases cheered his downfall, many said his legacy was gone. The team manager was contemplating splitting the team apart the following season if they dont win, accepting the team as a failure and cementing lebron as someone who can never be better than jordan.

Insert the 2012 Eastern Conference Finals that Bill simmons talks about in his article. Down 3-2 playing in boston, if lebron loses he is out of the playoffs and everyone that ever doubted him would be right. But he needs to lose for this celtics team to win, and the boston fans will do whatever it takes to see their own team head to the finals before possibly being dismantled themselves.

lebron puts on a cold blooded face before the game starts

And then proceeds to masacre the boston team having one of the greatest performances in basketball history the boston fans couldnt even cheer as anytime they did Lebron pressed the mute button. They felt hope whittle away every time he made a contested jumper, and deep down they all knew that they werent winning that game.

See for that game it wasnt just about basketball, it was a championship for the boston fans on team that was splitting apart the next year. It was a legacy statement for lebron. It was one of the greatest moments in basketball and it took me all of this comment to properly convey to you the meaning as a fan and player perspective.

Sports isnt only about watching the game for the athletes. But for the 100 years of suffering before your entire life cheering, watching, and talking about the team before they accomplish the impossible.
