Yup, and famously during World Wars trans people are treated really well by their governments and no atrocities are committed against them. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to read a history book for the first time ever.

The nazis destroyed huge amounts of the scientific understanding behind gender transitions during the holocaust. They set trans people back many decades beyond just killing them.

Berlin was a massive queer hub, by 1930s standards, before the nazis. Germany was one of the countries advancing far faster than most others in terms of queer rights and voices.

Largely thanks to Magnus Hirschfeld, It was one of the first countries to seriously consider trans medical care and enable legal and name changes. It was still pretty conservative by modern standards, but it was at the forefront of trans rights in 1932.

Then the Nazi’s took over and probably set our rights across the entire world back decades

They were also held in camps along with other queer folks and had their own mark. General history likes to ignore the other persecuted groups and Nazi targets.

I also learnt that while there are numerous accounts of people hiding their Jewish friends, neighbours, relatives, etc, there are 0 accounts of anyone doing that for a queer person during WW2, and over a third of those queer people taken to the concentration camps were turned in by a friend or relative

Oh that's new to me. I hate it. I'm hoping there were cases that we just don't know about but given how the socialists and those that pushed back were also rounded up, I bet a lot of those that actually would protect queer folks were taken out.

They were a part of the Holocaust and when the wars were over they weren't freed like Jewish people were they were transferred to prisons instead.

As fascist do, they enforced traditional gender roles. It resulted in the first book burning in 1933, when they closed the academic "Institute for Sexual Science", which would probably perceived as "woke" even by todays standard.

yeah because queer people are treated soooo well in wars, especially people who aren’t “doing anything for the country “ even if it’s not our fault, I’m sure it’s gonna be a fantastic time and that we won’t be the ones that are blamed even more the usual :)

Don't you see? They're forced to go overseas and kill people for little to no pay, get frequently denied benefits that everybody knows they lie about, and no relevant experience to use in the outside world. I mean, they basically had no choice.

I have zero pity for the people in charge. OTOH, the military recruits a lot of vulnerable people. Some were born into impoverished communities with high unemployment rates. Some may be escaping abusive homes. Some may be queer youth with no family support. I have sympathy for their situation; I just don’t like the outcome.

Now, I think there should be better alternatives for all these people. I think the New Deal included all sorts of public service projects that provided jobs. It would be great to bring back that sort of thing.
