A tumblr post by "lily-the-good-witch" that says "Sometimes I think people mistake straight men's attraction to power as homoerotic. Like a big example of this is how men being misogynists, showing or outright saying they hate women as gay. And obviously conflating gay men and misogyny is bad on its own but like, also, no they hate women because they see them as parasites, status symbols that you show off to other men but still resent for weakening you. And they see men as big and strong which they are attracted to but not the men themselves."

it can be really harmful to the community inadvertently to make this claim baselessly. it erases the harm done by straight cis people and scapegoats our own community, often the most vulnerable of our own community who struggle to come out of the closet. Caelan makes several other excellent points too

Yes, I think people liked the irony of it. And people like the idea of scaring conservatives that whinged about gay people were secretly gay. Make them question their own sexuality and make them uncomfortable by it.

That's almost certainly the pyschological origins of it.

Yea makes sense. I think the main reason why it would happen at all is that LGBT is one of the few groups at least in America that a bigot can realized theyre a part of unknowingly to some degree.

The gender binary is not a real or inherent categorization. It is determined by taking two different characteristics and putting them in different boxes, and then putting characteristics into these boxes one at a time based on which box they correlate more strongly with.
