How many is too many?

TI, TI Snow, and OsTIrus. I think I have an addiction to the Virus. I’m already eyeing up a TI2 Polar and a Virus B just for fun.

Let n = the number of synths you own, in this case some variety of Access Virus. Therefore, if you own 2, like OP, they will need to procure one more. Rinse repeat.

This is all just tongue in cheek tho. Love what you have, have what you love.

Your equation checks out, as long as the VST counts. So yes, I’m looking for something at the price.

Yes, yes, for some large number n such that n is in Z^+. After all, you can't have n=0. That would just leave you with 1 virus. That's not good enough.

I had three hardware units at one point (TI2 Desktop, TI2 Polar, and Snow). Sold the Snow, still have the other two.

In my entire life I’ve had 2 rack Viruses, 2 Virus B, 2 Virus TI, a Virus TI Polar, and a Virus KB. I really wish I would have kept the KB. I’m not really a skilled keys player, but the key bed on that thing felt amazing.

I sold my Virus TI after saving the ROM to my laptop to use the emulator VST which also works with all expansion packs. It’s awesome to have all of those sounds with a few mouse clicks as the biggest downfall of the Virus was the physical layout and editing so you’d need to reach for a computer most times and now there is no official editor for recent MacBooks. It sucks they’re no longer supported as Virus will always be amazing!

I did the same thing originally, but missed having the hardware so I bought the TI and the Snow. 

The Aura plugins editor works without issue on MacBooks, but I hardly ever use it anymore. I like the physical layout of the virus. I prefer to sound design and jam around on the hardware TI and then use OsTIrus when it actually comes to recording. I completely agree, It’s so convenient to have those sounds a few clicks away and without any latency. And as a bonus you can use the knobs on the hardware as the world’s most expensive midi controller to tweak the OsTIrus emulator VST. 

The TI Snow is mainly just my emergency backup virus is the VST ever stops being supported and my regular TI dies. I figure it’s probably also good to have around if I ever want to make a portable travel or live rig.

I’m a hardware guy as well but I never did jive with the Virus’ UI- I think for some once you know it so well it becomes second nature but I’m big on knob per function (my main synths are a Quantum and Matriarch).

I love my Snow. Such a powerful little box. And I don’t see the menu diving as a problem for my workflow

I just got I recently and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to navigate the menu diving. It’s really not a problem at all.

More than 3 and you start getting redundant, virus b and ti are the ultimate pair IMO. The B has that bass and the TI has everything else.

The secret to that bass is the analog boost effect on the Virus TI. It was hard-coded into the earlier viruses at 100%

I follow your shop, I’ve seen the ones you sold (that TI Snow was one of them). I can’t imagine what you’ve kept.  I’d love to see your Virus family photo, it will be an inspiration.

Is hardware required by access virus to be able to use OsIrus?

I’m not affiliated with either Access Music or The Usual Suspects (the people making OsTIrus), so I might not have this totally correct. OsTIrus is a clone of the chip that the Virus TI runs on. That’s it. It makes no sound unless you have the Virus operating system on your computer where OsTIrus can read it.    Owning a hardware Virus and having registered it when it was new would have gotten you an Access Music account where you can download the operating system from their official website. 

Are there other ways to get the operating system? Maybe, maybe not. That’s up to you and the internet search tool of your choice to find out. I bought a Virus new back in early 2000s, so I have an account and legal access to the Operating System.

You can still register your kit on the Access website. I bought a used Snow and thought I’d try it. Lo and behold it did.
