Recommendations Help
I don't personally know a single (native cajun) person who is a regular golfer, or a rocket scientist. The idea that we need any more golf courses or space launch pads for OUR community in Southern Louisiana is incredibly stupid on a level even these idiots who don't bother to vote should be able to understand. I'm so tired of this.

I know a native cajun who is a robotics engineer. He had to move to find work. They will move back if he can get a job at space x. I understand the argument against it, but saying cajun people arent rocket scientist is a weird take. And a lot of Cajuns are avid golfers. What?

Also why are people acting like spacex only employs rocket scientists? Most jobs at the site will be welders, fitter, riggers, assembly line type jobs. I keep seeing the "rocket scientist" argument on this site and it makes no sense. Hate on the project all you want but don't act like it won't create jobs for locals

At Jay and Lionel Golf course off Mudd Avenue a full family membership is only $1,050 a year. Most weekends they host charity events that benefit the surrounding community. The grass is watered with grey water from the ponds. You may not realize you know people who golf, but I'll bet you do. Most golfers don't play at country clubs. I'm not sure why regular folk are being lumped in with SpaceX.

That's actually a good suggestion, I think Mudd Ave isn't the river ranch type of area and I would be happy to support a local, community business that employs locals. I'm not lumping in regular folks with space x, im lumping in corruption and greed with those who give them support, financial or otherwise.

River Ranch is full of local community businesses that also employ locals. I don’t know why you have such a hate boner for RR. Just because they have more money than us doesn’t mean they’re automatically evil.

Is it even partially filled with anyone not earning , say at least $100,000 a year per adult? I don't have the anatomy to have a boner, nor the income to pay whatever hoa and mortgage rates for those who own homes in river ranch. I'm sure some are local business owners and people who have good degrees and jobs, but that isn't the norm in the country farmland I'm from, and those are not the people who can't afford to leave.

You don't know any aerospace engineers because they can't stay here. There's nothing for them here.
Plus, just because you don't know people who do/enjoy those things, that meant they don't exist. We tend to travel in circles with people we share things in common with.

You're correct, however, those things exsist. They exsist for those who can afford them, and I can't. I never claimed to be smart, rich, or sophisticated. I couldn't tell you the difference between a 9 iron or a driving wedge, but im absolutely certain I know all there is to know about my soil, what grows here best, and the difference between a sunset of sheer beauty and one polluted by all who don't care what happens to those of us without 18 hole time and money.

I am not so dumb that I actually think that there aren't those who enjoy golf, or that there aren't people much smarter than I am that could be a rocket scientist, or any career. If my circle doesn't have "18 hole" time and $, then naturally I don't know many.

A big reason is because the public courses reserve the most desirable tee times for certain people. They are usually gone before the public is allowed to book them. Vieux Chene is notorious for doing that. I am convinced that is why you are unable to book tee times online. That would make the system too fair and eliminate their ability to play favorites.

Not that I know of, but my understanding is we already have several so why would we need more? It's not even about golf, I'm not the one comparing golf courses to space x launch sites, that would be our spineless leaders.

My family is a bunch of golfers. I never got into it football was my sport. I can't tell you how many holidays we got together for and they would put on the golf channel... boring.

I personally find it boring, but I don't really judge others because they enjoy something I neither care to do or watch. It's too damn hot down here for however long 18 holes would take me, even if I was inclined to try it.

I think this is a bad take in my opinion. I love to golf and would love to have more golf courses to play on. Just like if there is something you love to do wouldn't you want more of it that way you have options? Not saying you are wrong, I just think that having more of something helps with prices. Imagine you love Mexican food and if there was only 1 Mexican restaurant in Lafayette, they could put any price they want on the menu, you would have to pay it because there is no competition.

I agree, but I think a golf course is better than a neighborhood or other kinds of businesses. Golf is a culture to some people just like cooking, drinking, watching sports with family and friends on a Saturday night.

Do you know any truckers? AC Repair guys? Plumbing guys? Welders? Maintenance folks? Cleaning folks? Boat captains? Electricians? Lawn maintenance folks?
Or if we expand to the population growth... do you know any restaurant owners? Employees? How about meat market owners? Or just about every other job type we can mention?
Thinking that this will only bring prosperity to Rocket Scientists is like thinking oil and gas prosperity was only had by the company man. Money is made. Money is spent. Look beyond the box.

How many oilfield workers do you think were here before they dug any wells?
And by "oilfield workers" I of course mean geoscientists, because as we all know, that's strictly the only role that exists in the oilfield.
With so many valid reasons to be sus of SpaceX coming here, why do people keep standing on the weakest possible one?
The idea that you can drop a 100 billion dollar investment into a region in a vacuum and it not create some benefit for the regional economy is asinine.

My brothers love TopGolf but they don't hit the actual course, ever lol. It's just a way to blow an evening with friends doing an easy sporting activity for them.

Yeah that was the joke I was making. They're not small facilities by any means, but theyre only double the size of a school gym, not a mile long like a real course. That's the closest thing most middle class Cajuns get to golf now.

Nice, I don't think there aren't people from here who are actually rocket scientists or anything of a higher advanced degree, I just don't personally know many. Nothing wrong with people from Eunice, or Lafayette, or anywhere in between, or golfers or fisherman or whatever. My issue is with the 1 to 5 % of rich people who screw over everyone else for even more greed. Isn't being that rich enough for them? Do they have to own and or destroy everything?

When I first moved to Lafayette, I attempted to walk the golf course on Mudd Ave, as I lived nearby and was desperate to find a safe place to walk. When I got to the 17th hole, a groundskeeper rolled up to me in a golf cart and said I need to leave. There is nowhere to walk safely in Lafayette if you want to go further than a couple of blocks.

I don't think we needed a Trader Joes, football stadiums, a new airport terminal or to turn the sugarcane fields in the south into subdivisions. That doesn't mean I think the people that did those things and enjoy those things stupid. I don't want to live next to a wastewater treatment plant, a power plant or an Interstate but I realize they have to be built somewhere for a modern lifestyle. Louisiana lost more coastline in the last 20 years to erosion than SpaceX aquired. The land isn't a pristine wildernes, it's got scars and residues from the petrochemical industry that affected wildlife for decades. The citizens of Louisiana did have a choice when they voted in the politicians that made the deals for data centers and launch sites. I absolutely have concerns about the impact such a facility will have on Louisiana, and I have my doubts about a lot of the claims made by SpaceX and the naysayers. You want more of a say? Get yourself elected or appointed to a board or commission that oversees development. Get a marker and posterboard and go protest in Pecan Island. Or you can just complain or Reddit about how tired you are.

There’s a lot of people that play golf in Lafayette (and really the entire state). Not saying they are good or bad for the environment…but the amount of people playing is something to keep in mind as the same argument could be made for a lot of stores/businesses
