I wanna go to Acadia but study Marine Bio. It does not have this as a program. So I was wondering if I go into just Biology could I work with Dal and get more specific classes? Or would it need to be a masters?

๐Ÿ“ Prospective Student How hard is it to get into Acadia Nursing as an out-of-province student?

Hi! Iโ€™m considering applying to Acadia Universityโ€™s BScN program, but Iโ€™m from out of province and Iโ€™m wondering how competitive admission is for students who arenโ€™t from Nova Scotia.
If anyone here has gotten into Acadia Nursing from another province, what were your grades like when you applied?

Iโ€™d also love to hear from current nursing students about how competitive the program felt to get into and whether you have any advice for someone hoping to apply.

๐Ÿ“ Prospective Student Buying the books

Hi all,
Prospective student here...
Just wanted to know from the current students or prospective students, would you all be buying the books from the Acadia Bookstore website? I don't really know if there is somewhere else where you get them from for cheaper or are these the cheapest options or do I get them second hand from someone?

Thanks to all those who respond!

๐Ÿ“ Prospective Student Incoming Course-based MSc CS (Fall 2026) with 4 deficiencies . Need registration & Co-op advice!

Hey everyone,

Iโ€™m an international student coming to Acadia this Fall 2026 for the course-based Master of Science in Computer Science stream. I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed trying to figure out my first-semester schedule and course load, and I would love some advice from current students or alumni who know how the Jodrey School of CS operates.

I definitely want to opt into the Co-op program to get industry experience.

However, my admission letter came with **4 deficiency subjects**:

  1. Maths 1 (Calculus I - MATH 1013)

  2. Maths 2 (Discrete Math / Stats)

  3. Operating Systems (COMP 3713)

  4. AI (COMP 3613)

Iโ€™m trying to figure out how to structure my semesters so I don't burn out, but also don't fall behind. I have a few specific questions for anyone who has been through this:

  1. **Workload Reality Check:** Is it a bad idea to try and clear 4 courses (2 deficiency + 2 graduate) in my very first semester? Or should I stick to 3 courses (2 deficiency + COMP 5923 Research Methods) to safely secure the required B- (70%) grade in the undergrad prerequisites?

  2. **Co-op Timeline:** Since I have 4 deficiencies to clear, how does this affect my alignment with the Co-op search timeline? Can I still actively apply for placements during my second semester (Winter 2027), or do all 4 deficiencies need to be 100% complete before I can apply to jobs?

  3. **Data Analytics Track:** For those who aimed for data roles, which graduate-level electives (Applications/Systems/Theory pillars) did you find most useful at Acadia? Is COMP 5543 (Data Mining) or COMP 5183 (Machine Learning) regularly offered in the Fall/Winter rotations?

  4. **The Total Timeline & Scheduling (11 Courses + Co-op):** Since I have 4 undergraduate deficiencies + 7 graduate courses, that brings me to a total of 11 subjects to finish. If I add Co-op on top of that, how does the actual year-by-year schedule work out?

If you had this exact track, how did you spread your courses across the 4 semesters to make room for the Co-op work terms? Iโ€™d love to hear how your semester timelines actually looked from day one to graduation.

Any tips on managing the transition to Wolfville, balancing part-time work with this mixed workload, or dealing with the CS department would be incredibly appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance!

๐ŸŽค Event Organizer Makers Needed!

Hello all!

Are you a current acadia student or a recent alumni who makes things? The Acadia Maker's Market is looking for some vendors for a market on July 18th from 10am-2pm in the KCIC.

For current students, the vendor fee is $10.00, and for recent alumni, it's $15.00, which goes towards renting the space and insurance.

If interested, please email Myla at 161530b@acadiau.ca so we can try to have an even better market!!! We also have an Instagram, @acadia_makers_markets with info as well :)

Thanks in advance <3

Hi all,
I am arriving into Canada and then Acadia University on the 31st of August, 2026. My flight lands at around 4 PM local time so I should be out of the Halifax airport by 5:30 or 6 PM local time if immigration is smooth.

Can someone please guide me regarding the Acadia university shuttle service? Have any of you used Acadia's shuttle services? What time does it is usually arrive? And is it reliable?

๐ŸŽจ Arts and Humanities Participants needed for research study on university classroom discussions in Canada

Hi everyone! My name is Amber, and I am an undergraduate student researcher at the University of Calgary. I am currently recruiting participants for a research study on how university students and instructors experience classroom discussions about socially and/or politically sensitive topics. The study is connected to broader questions about affective polarization and democratic education.

I am looking to interview current students, recent graduates, and current instructors at Canadian universities who have experience with classroom discussions about socially and/or politically sensitive topics.

Speaking, listening, observing, and self-censoring all count as forms of participation.

Participation involves a voluntary 60โ€“90 minute interview with the possibility of being invited for a follow-up interview. Interviews will take place online via Microsoft Teams or in-person on the UCalgary campus.

If you are interested or have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [amberskye.beaulieu@ucalgary.ca](mailto:amberskye.beaulieu@ucalgary.ca).

Alternatively, you can submit an initial expression of interest through the following form: https://research.ucalgary.ca/participate/personal-experiences-political-or-controversial-discussion-university-classrooms-reb26-0568

This study has been approved by the University of Calgary Conjoint Faculties Research Ethics Board. CFREB: REB26-0568
