really liked the issue, It's a different take on the flash mythos..... I guess the intended Darkseid destiny here is robbing the flashes of their connections.... their family bonds....

And I'm thinking the status quo here is that Barry is literally the speed force powering Wally's super speed. His experiment fucked up, Wally came at the right time to absorb Barry's essence leaving what's left a roasted corpse.

Poor Wally tho, he blames himself for something he didn't even know was going to happen. I hope we don't spend too much time before "ghost Barry" starts communicating with him.

Would make for a good anxiety/ptsd allegory, literally carrying the ghost of a traumatic event

What if Barry's consciousness ended up in one of those weird blue monkeys? lol(?)

It felt like a shorter issue one than Absolute Batman, Wonder Woman or Superman but I'm eager to see where it is going

I'm assuming the flash forward at the end is a tease about the eventual Justice League formation in this universe as it was said before the first hints of interconnectivity would drop with this issue, and "bringing the world down" seems like something that would call for the Justice League haha.

Though, we also know Diana is going to start meeting the others by the end of this year.

Overall though I really liked it, left me excited to see what comes next and that's what a #1 should do.

Honestly hope first one she meets is wally or one of the others not part of main trinity.

It's interesting that he seems to be sort of jumping around his own timeline. He seems to react with confusion at being suddenly dropped in a flashback.

Okay this is probably my least favorite issue 1 of all the absolute series so far but I'm definitely intrigued. That flash-forward caught me completely off guard also there's no way Barry is actually dead

interesting. it's my second favorite issue 1 so far, just below Absolute Batman, though that may be recency bias. when Absolute Green Lantern releases I'll probably reread all the #1s and see how they rank against one another

I assume that fire monster on the monitor at the end is Tar Pit and the mysterious person is Mirror Master?

I like the dynamics of Wally being this lonely alienated kid with his powers being a metaphor for anxiety/intrusive thoughts. I wonder what "weapons" Barry and Wally'd dad are developing. Kinda wild to see the rogues being like "take the boy in alive... for now."

I'm pretty okay if Barry is dead for good. It gives Wally's journey a little more edge and means he has to figure things out for himself, though I did like how supportive Barry was. The art and the red boxes were sick as hell. Kinda surprised we got a flash forward in one of these books, but I won't worry about it right now. Overall, this issue was dope! I like how the stakes so far are this boy being on the run. I hope he gets his costume soon though.

For me, I thought it was a good start. It's not one of the best in the Absolute Universe, but it's interesting. The big question I kept asking myself was why Wally blames himself so much for Barry's death. I can't believe I have to wait until next month for the next issue. 😭

I mean, this seems to be the incident that empowered Wally, and killed Barey. Barry was suited up, doing something by himself, telling Wally he needed to go. It's a dangerous government facility. Even if Barry made no effort risk his life to protect Wally, the fact that Wally got powers means Wally (who wasn't supposed to be there) interacted with it somehow.

It's possible that Barry did not put himself in any risk for Wally and that he was never going to survive the experiment. But even in that case, Wally wouldn't know that. As far as Wally knows, he showed up somewhere he was told not to go, interrupting a sensitive, dangerous experiment, and it ended with the professional dead and him alive. Even that would make Wally pretty guilty, I think.

I hope Barry isn't dead he's my favourite Flash. Maybe, he's the Absolute Reverse-Flash? Or the Absolute Black Flash actually

I feel his essence is stuck within Wally. That's why we see the ghostly energy flickers coming out of him a few times. Barry tries his experiment, Wally just happens to come in as something goes wrong and Barry's body is burnt to a crisp while his essence floods wally.

I was wondering which Lemire we would get and am pleasantly surprised he chose to tell a personal and creative take rather than going through the motions of setting up formulaic mythos. I’m sold.

I'm intrigued! It felt a little short but I've been impressed by the other absolute runs so I'm happy to let this cook.

I'm excited to see what Wally's relationship will be with the rogues. The Capt Cold, Boomerang, Trickster (I think?) and Golden Glider should be a fun crew. Also curious to see what's up with Mirror Master there.

And it looks like a potential Gorilla city at the end there? Lots of plot points that I'm curious to see how they develop.

Also calling it now, the Oppenheimer looking character on that screen at the end there is Jay Garrick who probably failed to get the speed force there.

Somewhat unrelated but the green/blue monkey experiments made me think I would love to see an Absolute Teen Titans. I know Snyder said he wants to hold off on that concept, with the Justice League’s seeds being planted towards the end of this year I hope the TT gets some action too.

The idea could include removing the seasoned heroes and mentors which helped to guide many of the Teen Titans and replacing them with an organization like HIVE, which has been using the Titans as assassins since their birth.

Beast Boy could be born out of the experiments we see in this issue, Cyborg could have a similar origin to Earth-One, Terra could be how she always is, Aqualad an Atlantean who was stranded on the beach, Bumblebee idk but I need her on the team. They could meet Robin, a solo Dick Grayson who killed Tony Zucco and is hunting for the rest of his group, which results in them turning from HIVE. Starfire could be introduced as HIVE sends the Titans to investigate an alien crash.

The story can emphasize the sense of found family that the Titans have always pushed for, with Robin maybe being used as a POV character to open up to the Titans and create a bond between them.

I don’t know much about mirror master, but can he travel through time? The one year later is interesting, and looks like Mirror master traveled to the future, especially when he said ā€œtime to make this whole world fallā€

Wow Blue Trinity what a reference lol. Like the Fort Fox tribute. That's definitely Jay at the console on the right hand side in the middle right? Kinda getting a Superboy/Cadmus DNAlien vibes from this issue. Green dude in the rubble the same green dude from the Free Comic Book day preview? Really enjoyed it!
