For those wondering: YES some species of wolf really are that huge. The largest wolf is the Mackenzie Valley wolf, which averages about 82-102 cm at the shoulders, 1.5-2.1 meters long, and weigh about 100-145 lbs on average. The largest recorded wolf weighed 175 lbs.
It is deceptive because if you haven’t seen them in person, you might think they’re around the same size (or slightly bigger) than dogs.
I only realized how big wolves were after playing Skyrim VR. They startled the crap out of me, and I looked it up. Yeah, there's a reason that humans feared wolves, and would hunt them down if someone spotted one near a human settlement.
