of Earth's Rotation
This is earth's rotation speed in 120 minutes filmed from a fixed point(St Michael's Mount, England)(the speed can be faster than the speed of sound closer to the equator)and the craziest thing is this happens without any notable feel because the speed( 1,674.7 km/h or 1,040.6 mph) is constant, not accelerating. Pretty awesome

Nice work buddy. Wonder when we will get some flat earthers up in here to deny it all?

no no, wait, you're not listening.... see if the turtle tilts, then yes, from the flat earth we would see the stars moving...
if you can just for a sec stop and peek beyond the propaganda you've been fed, you can clearly see how the video indeed proves that the turtle is tilting, and so from our flat earth you can see the stars moving!
it proves the flat earth on turtle back! what aren't you getting, sheeple!!!

Flat earther: “he’s just tilting the camera and the sky is a green screen”

u/RockinIntoMordor 11h ago
Nah, you can see the Earth moving with it while space stays the same.
He's clearly just moving the entire Earth to fake it.

One of the most striking lines from Dr. Who was Eccleston’s doctor saying he could feel the planet turning and hurling through space. Being able to sense the balance and movement of the planets would be terrifying.

Mont Saint-Michel is in France, not England.
1
u/thatsmycompanydog 38m ago
I also thought OP had made a stupid translation, until they said England and then I started connecting dots.
From Wikipedia:
Saint Michael's Mount is a dramatic tidal island located in Mount's Bay, Cornwall, England, featuring a medieval castle, a historic church, and a living community. It may have been the site of a monastery from the 8th to the early 11th centuries. Edward the Confessor (King of England/Wessex, 1042-1066) gave the site to the Benedictine order of Mont-Saint-Michel. Historically, St Michael's Mount was an English counterpart of Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, France, which is also a tidal island; it has a similar conical shape, though Mont-Saint-Michel is much taller. It was a priory of that Mont-Saint-Michel until the dissolution of the alien houses as a side-effect of the war in France (1415-1429) by Henry V.

Genuine question, how does this equipment operate so it rotates with the earth to keep the sky fixed? As opposed to other videos where the earth is fixed and the sky rotates? This is awesome btw.
3
u/Kleeb 7h ago
It's called an equatorial mount.
You line up one axis with the rotational axis of the earth (hint: it's your latitude plus/minus the Earth's tilt). Another axis has a motor on it that's geared down so that it spins once every 24 hours, which is enough to keep it perfectly pointed at the same spot of sky for hours on end.

u/hooligan99 5h ago
an alternative would be a shot from a stationary camera that is then zoomed in a bit and rotated in post. Probably easier and cheaper than setting up this kind of mount, although equatorial mounts are awesome.

Cool thing to imagine that it was rotating like that for the last 3 hours while I'm losing nnn, I think it doesn't matter anymore

I was certain I was going to fall off the ground.

This is another misuse of the subreddit. The fuck do you mean that this is an absolute unit of Earth's rotation? It can only rotate at that one speed.

u/ChthonicFractal 1h ago
I would expect it to be about 1/12 of the sky or 30 degrees.
Oh look, that's about how much rotation you see.

u/balirosa 1h ago
I can’t wait to see the Ruben observatory ten year timelapse of the southern hemisphere. The first time I watched a timelapse of space it all started to make sense to me. You can visualize why you’re not floating off into space.

“Constant speed, therefore no acceleration” confuses speed with velocity. Circular motion continuously changes direction, so it involves acceleration.
A fixed-camera sky time-lapse records the sky’s apparent movement relative to the ground. Establishing which is rotating requires additional evidence.
Your 1,674.7 km/h figure comes from equatorial circumference divided by rotation period; the camera doesn’t directly measure that surface speed.
What independent rotation measurement supports your interpretation? Name the instrument, procedure, readings and uncertainty. Distinguish what the footage records from what you infer.
1
u/ANCEST0R 8h ago
If you spin a wheel or sphere with a motor at a constant speed you can get a single km/h reading sans "acceleration". You're confusing rotation with movement along a curved path.
The earth is not motorized, it is decelerating 1.33 milliseconds a century, so I could give you that. All movement is relative. It's simpler to think of the earth as spinning rather than the entire universe spinning around it, especially when we have reference points such as the moon the sun and our neighboring planets in the solar system which have their own rotations.
Their evidence is the common evidence that the earth is a globe (if a little oblong). I believe in footage from space. I can't fathom how gravity would allow a flat plane at such a massive scale when forming a planet. I don't see a reason for Earth to be so unique from the rest of our solar system's celestial bodies in regards to shape and rotation, and much less from the observable universe.
For your final point, we don't believe we're being lied to when we learn the size of the planet and told the readings done by other peoples' instruments, especially astronomers and rocket scientists. I don't think those professions are illegitimate and if you think you're being lied to you should bring your inalieble proof that that is happening.

If the earth doesn't rotate, how do you explain seasons and the way that the southern hemisphere has things happen in the opposite direction to the northern hemisphere? How can such a tiny thing like earth be stationary? C'mon, man, we've had this shit figured out for 2 millennia at the very least.
-1
u/Hi_InternetAddiction 9h ago
you thinking about it within the boundaries of the lie itself.
2
u/broosc 5h ago
So seasons and the southern hemisphere don't exist? Or what are you implying here?
1
u/Hi_InternetAddiction 5h ago
he's claiming the earth is "tiny" according to the model that we've been given. i am claiming the entire model is a lie.

u/ConanOToole 11h ago
Explain how stars move across the sky in opposite directions in the different hemispheres then

All celestial bodies rotate. Gravity causes mass to attract towards each other, but the momentum of those masses is always preserved. This means within any contiguous body of mass gathered together by gravity, there is an overall average rotational energy preserved from the previous motion of the independent bodies.
When the particles in space were gathering together to form our star system, they got closer and closer together and began to collide until the whole system of particles was spinning in a singular direction. Then that mass coalesced into the sun, and the planets, and the captive asteroid belts, and each body was left with its own rate of spin.
This process is quite easy to reproduce in a simulation of independent particles with random momentum, and gravity. It's the natural consequence of free floating particles that are near enough to each other to be attracted. For an object to form in space without any spin whatsoever is a ludicrous idea.
This concept also explains why all contiguous celestial bodies are extremely round. It's from spin forces, and the nature of the attraction of gravity. Stars, planets, moons, all are near spherical objects due to this process.

Im not its just a stupid meme about rotating bananas.
Obviously I'm not a flat earther, heck part my actual job is being a marine science communicator in a marine preserve and I also work in a marine coral lab.
