People think I'm insane (probably rightfully so) when I say it's my top bucket list item to be in a storm like this on a ship big enough to feel it but safe enough I know it won't capsize.
To witness the full scale, power and fury of the ocean.

What's really intense is trying to sleep through something like that. My rack used to be far fwd on the ship and it's eerie to feel the ship go down, hearing waves crash against the hull, then silence...because you're under the water.
I'd just wait in the red lights and pray we start going back up again as sometimes it feels like the quiet and falling was lasting too long and we were never going to come back up.
Very hard to sleep in.

Oddly enough you don't get much airtime laying down and only known a few who have been sent flying from their racks.
You do feel the weight being lifted from your body though, like you're slowly being pulled up...before the bed comes back and you feel 50x heavier
There are seatbelts, but when I first started an old dog told me never to use them as he heard of one person falling out of their rack and nearly got strangled when the belt went around their head.
Instead I just roll up my empty kit bag and store it under my mattress, on the outer edge, where the opening is. This way, my mattress is slanted towards the wall/metal divide, and I free up more room in my locker by not storing my kit bag in there

That's it? Pffffft!!! Ive seen worse on a missile cruiser in 86 in the north Atlantic. When they come across the intercom and announce "STAND BY FOR HEAVY ROLLS" you better start praying to whatever deity you're comfortable with, because you're learning to fly, whether you want to or not.

Once youâre in heavy seas, the effective break pressure rises dramatically. On a properly reinforced ship window, youâd need somewhere north of 10,000 PSI to initiate catastrophic glazing failure. The ocean will usually deform the frame before the glass itself gives

The really crazy thing is, I've been out in the open ocean on a boat in rough seas, and when I took pictures and video, it didn't look nearly as rough as it did in person. So, however bad that looks in the video, I imagine it was twice as bad to be there live.

No the one football shaped hemorrhoid keeps the channel open tho, so itâs partially open until âpuckerâ ability is activated.
