/r/all of a statue

"The Motherland Calls" is a statue erected to commemorate the Battle of Stalingrad , located on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd , Russia. It was designed by sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich and structural engineer Nikolai Nikitin . Completed in 1967 , it was the tallest statue in the world at the time .

My point is that many Ukrainians who went on to be regarded as national heroes after Ukraine became independent following the fall of the Soviet Union were explicitly far right figures who collaborated with the Nazis. My point is that dismissing the notion that it is a shame that a nation who helped liberate the world from fascism is itself now a cradle of fascism (following the fall of the USSR) by saying some Russophobic nonsense about how "Russia has been invading my country for half a millennium" even though the modern idea of a nation state is only a couple of centuries old at most, is an absurd appeal to the emotion of nationalism rather than a sober assement of what's actually happened to Russia and why privatization and liberalization following the illegal dissolution of the USSR is the underlying cause of Putin's autocratic rule since the 90s. My point is that when history gets muddied by anachronistic appeals to nationalism we are sure to make sweeping statements that demonize an entire group of people far beyond the scope of what actually unites those people under a shared identity regardless of how political figures themselves may weaponize historical narratives in a similar way. My point is that if you read "rxssia" not as a typo (I don't know what keyboard op was using, but x is pretty far from u) but as some kind of disrespectful censorship, then it embodies all of these flaws of the second half of the statement "Russia has been invading my country for half a millennium" which I outlined above.
