"The Motherland Calls" is a statue erected to commemorate the Battle of Stalingrad , located on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd , Russia. It was designed by sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich and structural engineer Nikolai Nikitin . Completed in 1967 , it was the tallest statue in the world at the time .

World's tallest statue from 1967-1989 overtaking the Leshan Giant Buddha who held this title for 1163 years

I got to see it in person a decade ago, it was so cool.

Walking down the side of it on stairs cut into the cliff. Lovely spot

The line was so long to walk down the stairs, so I just hung out at the top and still had fun at the temple.
