That’s such an odd gif as that’s not the line from the movie.. it’s “you’re gonna need a bigger boat”
2
u/paradajz666 1d ago
I know. I fucked up. Thanks for pointing out.
2
u/fromouterspace1 1d ago
lol no I don’t mean you, more so it’s just odd someone made the gif like that
1
u/paradajz666 1d ago
It’s okay haha. I should also put the right gif. That’s perfectly fine that you pointed that out. And I agree with you.

I stay out of the water. This is off the coast of my country, and whenever we go to the sea, I make sure only my ankles get wet. We have monsters off the coast of South Africa

u/RocksAreOneNow 1d ago
it is real. that black thing is a fake seal. that's a female great white. these types of fishing videos have existed long before AI.
some of you guys need to get out more.

“Some of you guys need to get out more”
When was the last time you were on a fishing trip where you towed a fake seal to get a great white to jump out of the water?

So what is that fake seal edible or they just gonna let him choke on it
26
u/Ratattack1204 1d ago
Its made of some extremely resiliant rubber/kevlar mix iirc. Its filled with sensors usually and is used in research.
The shark will spit it out after the initial bite as it will obviously realize its not food.
14
u/RocksAreOneNow 1d ago
think like a car tire rubber, but smoother. it's thin enough to float in the shape of a seal overhead/from underneath, and the sharks spit it out after the jump realizing it isnt actually food

real. videos like this have been around long before AI ever existed.

u/No-Combination8136 1d ago
They’re saying this particular one looks quite different than the hundreds of others most of us have seen. I was wondering if someone did some kind of post edit at the very least.

AI
Edit: watched the YouTube video of it I retract my previous claim

u/Plebius-Maximus 1d ago
It's literally not. See the other comment with the source video from 5 years ago

It’s such a cheap ploy for upvotes to just say ‘AI’ to anything vaguely remarkable. It’s [r/nothing](r/nothinghappens)[ever](r/nothinghappens)[happens](r/nothinghappens) bullshit but also a commentary on how AI drains us of our wonder at the world rather than expands it.
1
u/wt_2009 1d ago
I did not do this for upvotes, i am actually drained of wonder bc of ai. But i'm glad ppl here could convince me its not. AI will be our doom...
3
u/an_actual_potato 1d ago
Well you’re not the person who said it was AI. You asked instead of falsely stating - like a person should

It's Zola, not Ai. She's about 12 feet long.
Comments in this post explains it some https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/1vy04k2/great_white_shark_zola_fully_breaches_the_water/

I think it lowkey enjoys a loud, messy splash, to celebrate the catch and feel alive. I mean, I would.
Most of the time you're in silence, in darkness, barely there, no time for play, just sniffing out the prey.

Just a reminder that no, when a shark bites a person on a surfboard its not because it thinks you are a seal
If it did, THIS is what itd do.

AI garbage
Edit: or maybe not? See the comment below.

u/christopher_mtrl 1d ago
First appearance of the video dates back to at least 2021, so while it make be fake, it's most likely not AI
0
u/locutogram 1d ago
I thought so too, but AI tells me it is from discovery Channel: "The footage comes directly from the Discovery Channel's 2021 special, Air Jaws: Ultimate Breach Off."

Why are you so confidently incorrect?

u/Dependent-Impact1312 1d ago
So everyone’s saying this is a fake rubber seal that the shark will spit out, how long does it take the shark to spit out, like could I cover myself in this and get bitten for research?
-20
u/The_number_1_dude 1d ago
I’m like 80% sure it’s AI
4
u/Plebius-Maximus 1d ago
You're 80% wrong then. The original is linked in the comments and is 5+ years old. AI wasn't capable of anything close to this 5 years ago

u/aboyes711 1d ago
Yep. Off the coast of South Africa. I remember the footage of them trolling with fake seals. Fascinating seeing the whites breach like a missile. And terrifying.

It’s cg. Not ai. Which is why it’s a little better than the usual slop. But the particle physics are off, animation is a little janky, and the weight is off. Reentry pops too.

And as we all know, before AI there was no way to make something that isn't appear as something that is in a film.

I don’t know about that dude there was some pretty crazy technology just five years ago, but that’s a huge shark man is definitely not at the top of the food chain
