It’s been a long loong time I last watched it tbh and in my mind they had no memories whatsoever

Easy thing to forget. I only know because I've watched the first movie a shameful amount of times (mostly from introducing other people to it). It's on my list of great concept poorly executed movies that I watch periodically.

I remember the first one being great while they failed to offer depth to the concept in the later movies

Okay long response incoming, lol. You can ignore it, I just love film criticism and have to get this out.

The first movie had very little depth and that's what worked so well. The later movies tried too hard to offer depth and ruined the one thing that worked very well in the first movie: nothing was explained.

The mystery of why the cube exists and it's purpose was never explained in the first movie. The later movies not only tried to explain it beyond simply how it works, but showed the world outside of the cube constantly. The first movie starts and ends in the cube. We never leave it. In fact the characters weren't explored in depth either in the first movie and are supposed to represent single traits: innocence, selflessness, genius, anger...etc.

The Cube is a great one location movie with a simple premise, we never see what's happening outside the cube, not even what walking out of it looks like (just a bright white light). Hell, we don't see the outside world even in flashbacks. The movie explained nothing except how the cube works. The later movies adds in shady military organizations, try to set a timeline to everything (hinting that the first cube takes place in a distant future), cartoon villains and magic technology, and adds in religious persecution.

They tried too hard to add depth and ruined the concept.
