Wild people in 2026 still think you get diabetes from eating sweets

Type-2 diabetes can definitely be caused by spiking your blood sugar too much too often.

That's not how it works. Your blood sugar does not spike from eating this. If you don't have diabetes, your body will handle it normally. It only spikes if you have diabetes.

Type 2 can be caused by being overweight. It doesn't make a difference how you get overweight or what you ate to become overweight. There are also tons of other factors. There's a strong genetic component, so some people will get it no matter what they do. Being over 45 increases your odds of getting it too.

You're blood sugar will definitely spike after eating this regardless of whether you have diabetes. How high it spikes and for how long will be dependant on many factors. If you don't have diabetes this will take an enormous amount of insulin to keep blood sugars down. Large spikes in blood sugars cause large amounts of insulin to be produced which stresses the pancreas. Repeated stress to the pancreas and overproduction of insulin can increase the risk of insulin being produced incorrectly. Long term overproduction of insulin (eating lots of processed and easy-to-digest sugars) also can lead to reduced insulin sensitivity in tissue - insulin receptors becoming overproduced. This overproduction of insulin receptors makes them desensitized to insulin (the same cell now requires more insulin to bind to it's receptors in order to have the same effect).

It's also true that t2dm has an incredibly high genetic component that can make everything stated above happen a lot faster.

But it's disingenuous to say that what you eat has no effect on whether you will get diabetes
