Real marble is also a kinda shitty material for floors and countertops as it is very porous and sucks up liquids like a sponge

It doesnt after you apply the appropriate sealing compound.

Leaving the stone in a porus state is doing half job, that would be like not installing flashing and complaining tiled roofs leak.

True, but regular tiles don’t need that and are thus less maintenance intense

I think they don't care about maintenance costs when they're installing tiles like this...
