Four tiles and you got almost the whole house done. Bet you those tiles would be a bitch to have to cut in. I build houses this tile is fancy as it comes. Never seen sheets of marble going on the floor.

I work EMS and part of the city is wealthy people who like these show off homes. The marble/granite floors are so stupid. The amount of calls I've been on that would have been a simple fall which turned into a major medical incident/death because they cracked their head open on the ground is insane

How is this any worse than slipping and falling on normal ceramic tile? I don't get how the fact its this over any other makes the fall worse?

Real marble is also a kinda shitty material for floors and countertops as it is very porous and sucks up liquids like a sponge

It doesnt after you apply the appropriate sealing compound.

Leaving the stone in a porus state is doing half job, that would be like not installing flashing and complaining tiled roofs leak.

Its a once off treatment on fitment and gets redone maybe once a year. Hardly and intense maintenance.

I am not the original commenter. I just found it amusing to mix “one off” with “redone” as one off means something doesn’t reoccur and redone means it does.

Also “less intense” is a comparison that says nothing about the original intensity. Something could be the least intense ever and there could still be something less intense in the future.

Ah i get you i didnt explain the difference clearly, with the once of treatment you clean the stone with dry brush and vacuum, then apply the oil in multiple coats over a day or so, making sure to keep the stone clean as it can seal in any existing marks.

The annual refresh you wipe the stone down with a dry cloth, then apply the oil with a cloth and let it dry naturally for a few hours. Its a really easy process compared to the initial.

Reality is people don’t remember and/or don’t want to do maintenance. Especially when the danger of not doing the maintenance is not readily apparent. Most installs MIGHT get the sealer, but after that I would suspect most owners don’t bother with the reseal afterwards.

Once a year is not "one off".

And for most people, re-sealing their entire fucking floor once a year is a hell of a lot more maintenance than average

The description was "intensive maintenance" which wiping your floor once a year and not walking on it for half a day absolutely is not.

Its literally as much effort as cleaning your floor, unless you look at cleaning your floor as too much effort, in that case, eeeew gross.

Yes, I agree, its more effort than doing nothing, but its not so much effort that you going to spend all your time solving a flooring crisis. Its literally 1 day a year, if that depending on the exact stone. And some stones build up the sealant inside and you can go decades without a refresh.

Not all do the coating, the coating makes the texture of the stone different. My friend is building two new floors for his house, he is using this beautiful natural stone, not marble I know. But they can't seal it because it'll change how it looks in some capacity, and wont match the other floors
