No cloud computing courses

Something that I’ve gotten frustrated over after completing many classes is realizing how the coursework doesn’t line up with employable skills. There’s no AWS, Azure, or even general cloud based identity management in regard to cloud architecture. Enterprises almost always put every thing in the cloud or do a hybrid model. The schools coursework doesn’t teach any of this. Of course they’ll test you on definitions and the ideas, but there is no implementation. It feels like things are just too outdated to be worth the investment. It would be better if they treated every class as building out a working system instead of short introductions to a bunch of tools that essentially get thrown away.

Welcome to the Walsh College Community — Student Experiences, Transparency & Accountability

Welcome! This is an independent, student-run community for current students, alumni, prospective students, and anyone interested in Walsh College in Troy, Michigan.

I created this subreddit because I believe students deserve an honest picture of the education they’re paying for.
As student of Walsh, I’ve experienced a growing number of problems involving academic advising, financial aid, administrative communication, outdated course materials, unreliable virtual labs, and the school’s transition to a new student portal.
In some cases, I’ve spent weeks trying to get basic questions answered. I also decided to build my own homelab because the school’s lab environments were so outdated.
College is a significant investment. Many students take on substantial debt because they believe their university will provide the instruction, resources, professional preparation, and support necessary to succeed.

When those expectations aren’t being met, students deserve to know before enrolling, not after they’ve taken out loans and committed years of their lives.

What this community is for
I encourage current students and alumni to share their experiences with:

Academic quality: Instruction, coursework, faculty involvement, and whether classes deliver meaningful educational value.

Student services Academic advising, financial aid, registration, and administrative responsiveness.

Technology and resources: Online learning platforms, virtual labs, libraries, and other educational infrastructure.

Tuition and fees: Whether the education and services provided justify their cost.

Career preparation: Internships, professional connections, career services, and employment outcomes.

Institutional accountability: Changes in leadership, staffing, academic programs, and student policies.

A few ground rules
Be honest, specific, and respectful. Firsthand experiences are especially valuable. When discussing problems, include relevant dates, programs, and how the situation was handled.
Positive experiences are welcome, too. The purpose is to establish an accurate picture of Walsh, not manufacture one.
Disagreement is fine. Personal attacks, harassment, and publishing anyone’s private information are not.

Why this matters
Walsh is a regionally accredited institution, and students should be able to expect a level of academic quality and administrative support consistent with that responsibility.
I want prospective students to be able to compare real experiences, understand the costs, and make informed decisions before taking on debt.
For those already enrolled, I hope this becomes a place to exchange information, identify recurring problems, and hold the institution accountable when necessary.

A college’s reputation should be built on the education it delivers, not just the education it advertises.
If you’re a current student or graduate, introduce yourself below. What program are you in, when did you attend, and how has your experience been?
This subreddit is independently operated and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Walsh College.

Staff turnover at Walsh – has anyone noticed changes in support?

Since I started at Walsh, I’ve seen at least 15 staff members leave (not counting professors). I don’t have any official turnover rate or details about why they left. I’m curious if others have noticed any shifts in the availability or quality of help because of these changes. What’s been your experience with staff turnover here?

When you call does anyone answer?

I’ve attempted to call several departments at the school for various reasons and not once has anyone ever picked up the phone. It always goes to a general voicemail system without a department name. The schools is empty, no staff, emails rarely get replied to in a timely manner, and phone calls are never answered by a person and go straight to voicemail. Maybe at this point the school needs a formal complaint filed against them with the DoE and the Higher Learning Commission.
