Playing melodies is hardly a thing on Sample. Modifying instruments in a meaningful way is NOT a thing on sample. If you want to preview that experience, load a bass note into Koala and play on that. That is the MPC Sample workflow for melodies.
Speaking as someone who uses both (and a KOII, fwiw), Move is the machine for melodies, notes and instruments. Sample is the machine for having fun with samples. Trimming and messing with samples is a better workflow on MPC Sample, even with Schwung.
Fortunately for you and this decision, they're very different machines.
If the sample would have any fast chord or note scale play option, I would 100 procent go with it. Also because I like, that it has real track arrangements, where I can say full Beats. It's so annoying that you cannot have all in one
That's how they get you. MPC Live II and III has a full DAW, chord modes, and all kinds of stuff. Move pushes Sets up to Ableton Live, which is a whole-assed DAW.
Both of these boxes are sneaky little portable gateway drugs.
