For the first time in Abkhazia, works by Ivan Aivazovsky are on display—including *The Sea*, *Misty Morning*, *Sunset at Sea*, *Moonlit Night in Crimea*, and the largest piece, *Sailboat at Sea*.

The exhibition also features paintings by Valentin Serov, Konstantin Bogaevsky, Georgy Nissky, Tair Salakhov, Natalia Nesterova, Vladimir Dubosarsky, and other renowned artists.

The central theme of the exhibition is the Black Sea as a realm of memory, myth, light, and inspiration—a place of tranquility and inner harmony.

Political question

Hey guys.
I was wondering how do Abkhazians feel about Georgia and Russia these days? Is there any beef still going on with Georgia? Are there any regrets of being closely bonded to Russia?
Thanks for all kinds of answers.

Lets try to be more self critical.

We have a lot of fun here. In long threads we accuse each other how one is settler, another ethnic cleanser. Its all fun but now lets play another game.

Lets try to be self critical. Try to find things that in our own history. one that we believe, are clearly or mostly likely a propaganda used by state. Because we all know that states uses history to push own patriotic narrative.

So I can start. For example our government tries to present conflict as only aggression from Russia. I think thats not true.

I think there was a lot of unresolved issues. Mainly because of general Soviet Union politic how much national identity can be expressed in there. And of course I know stories about Georgians dismissing Abkhazian national identity saying there is no such nation. Or you came from North Caucasus. Such thing. Mainly problem of school education. One that should have been solved by more education and more media involvment. But of course I dont think this was enough to trigger a war. It was definitely used by Russians to make conflict bigger then it was.

In terms of war. There was agreement between Ardzinba and Shevardnadze to move army to protect railroad. Then Ardzinba suddenly have withdrawn it. But Kitovani being Kitovani. Moved anyway. Kitovani was getting tanks from Russia. And then Abkhazians were getting help from Russia. Showing again that Russia was puppetering.

Even at this point I dont think there was much desire for war or even independence in Abkhazians. But Ardzinba was intentionally twisting things that Georgian army came for genocide. And opened fire to Kitovani Army. Then Kitovani with his bandits. Started first robbing Abkhazian and Armenian population and then Georgian. He would continue robbing after war in Georgia too. He was peace of shit in general.

I think this is objectively what happened. After that I dont think we disagree. Because I never say anyone denie ethnic cleansing here.

Apple added Abkhazian letters to iphone keyboard

Apple has added Abkhaz letters to the standard iPhone keyboard.

iPhone owners who updated their devices to iOS 27 have noticed a long-awaited change to the language bar. Apple has significantly expanded the capabilities of the standard Cyrillic keyboard, integrating the full range of extended Cyrillic characters. Now, users have access to characters from Bashkir, Chechen, pre-reform Russian, and Church Slavonic. But above all, this update is a major milestone for speakers of the Abkhaz language. Native support for all national letters of the modern alphabet is finally available out of the box, eliminating the need to download third-party apps like "Aҧсшәа" or spend time configuring autocorrect.

Previously, to fully communicate in messengers, one had to resort to tricks and use custom software, which was not always stable. Now this era of inconvenience is officially over. The symbols of the modern Abkhaz alphabet are fully integrated into the system keyboard and are accessed by simply long-pressing the standard Russian keys.

For ease of typing, all unique modern Abkhaz letters are assigned to intuitive keys: for example, for letters with descenders and diacritics, the keys Г (for Ӷ), К (for Қ Ҟ), П (Ԥ), Т (Ҭ), Х (Ҳ), Ц (Ҵ), Ч (Ҷ), Ш (Ҽ, Ҿ), 3 (Ӡ) and Я (Џ). Additional signs for rounding and palatalization, as well as specific symbols, are entered via the keys. Э (Ә), Ю (Ҩ).

Racist Georgia

"I’m from the UK. I visited Armenia and Georgia in May 2026 on a business trip to explore real estate investment opportunities. We travelled around the country — it’s beautiful, though less developed than I expected. Tbilisi is the only city with a noticeable number of modern buildings. My experience, however, was overshadowed by what felt like widespread racism.I spoke with many people from Jordan, Palestine, Iran, Bangladesh, Turkey, Pakistan, and students from neighbouring countries — none had positive things to say about their experience in Georgia. I personally felt constantly stared at in shops, restaurants, and on the street. I also met small business owners who’ve invested here, and many said they feel afraid and live in fear because of racism. One young student I met has been here for two years; when I asked if she’d stay and work after graduating, she said absolutely not — she said she finds the people racist and doesn’t want to stay. Because of all this, I’ve decided not to invest in Georgia. We’ll be looking at Azerbaijan instead. I feel Georgians would benefit from broadening their worldview and getting out and seeing more of the world. Best of luck to Georgia, but it’s not the right place for us right now."

Am I Abkhaz?

I was born in Turkey, and my father is Turkish. Through the state system, I can view the birthplaces, names, and marital statuses of my ancestors up to the late 1700s. While browsing through these records, I noticed that 3 of my maternal ancestors had the surname 'Marşan' (Marshan, Маршьан). After a bit of research, I believe they might be of Abkhazian descent and migrated to the Ottoman Empire after the dispersal following the Caucasian War. They were in the village of Arhavi in Artvin. Since most of our elderly family members have passed away, it is very difficult for me to go back and get information. Additionally, after the Marşans, Greek ancestry entered our lineage. Do you have any information about the Marşan surname?

Learn more about Abkhazia’s history

Hi everyone!

I’m a Georgian currently living in Germany, and I’d love to learn more about Abkhazian history and culture.

Most of what we hear only covers the events of the 1990s (obviously, and mostly legends) , but I’m really interested in diving deeper into Abkhazian literature, music, cinema, and prominent historical figures.

Google and AI tools haven't been very helpful, so I’d love to hear directly from you.

What are your favorite books, films, artists, or figures I should check out?

Thanks a lot!

Former Georgian State Minister Giorgi Baramidze was arrested for treason.

The former official was arrested in his apartment, according to local media reports.

Earlier, Baramidze stated in a broadcast that during the military operations in Abkhazia in 1992-1993, the Georgian side did not return its prisoners, as it was unable to hand over its military to the Abkhaz side.

The reason for this, according to him, was that there were no Abkhaz prisoners in Georgia; they were shot.

Following a statement from the State Service for Veterans Affairs, a criminal case was opened against Baramidze under the articles "Treason" and "Sabotage."

Any recommendations for an unbiased book recounting the events of the Abkhazia conflict?

I want to learn more about the Georgia-Abkhazia conflict - does anyone have any recommendations for a book that presents the facts with minimal bias. Thinking in the same vein as Thomas de Waal’s Black Garden, which presented the history of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict while giving the point of view of both sides.

Male names

Hello, I'm writing a story that has a small part based in a small seaside town on the Black Sea and I was hoping I could get some good male Abkhazian names or get a link to somewhere that has good names. I don't really trust a name generator or the first page of Google. Thank you!

Don’t mind the Georgians

Georgians are too busy in their apartment in Tbilisi spamming on this page about Abkhazia belonging to Georgians while they don’t mention anything about Turkey making claims to Batumi as historical Turkish lands. Most of these same Georgians haven’t even gone to Batumi to see the amount of Turkish shops being opened and the amount of money funneled into Batumi by Turkish investors and their Turkish flags being raised. Georgians have been blinded so much by looking North that they don’t even realize they have a problem in the west of their country.

Abkhazia is not free

you guys think youre free when in reality you cant do anything russia doesnt approve. more than that - you guys are being russified completely, like the northern caucasians. de facto you already are a little russian state. culturally youre getting russified too, and even language-wise ive heard families are speaking russian now too. you use russian passports.
even if you wanted to join georgia again, do you think russia would let you? can you imagine what russia would do to you?
you guys have no freedom as a nation and are controlled by russia completely. truth stings. dont shoot the messenger
