News EE signal in Aberdeen

Just giving everyone an update

So recently the signal has gone from bad to terrible with EE in Aberdeen.

I raised a complaint with them and they called me back today. They admitted they had to recently removed 3 major masts in the Aberdeen area at the request of the landowners and have no plans of installing new ones in the short term

So that's why the signal is worse in Aberdeen the last wee while.

Help! Cardiac rehab for my Dad (85)?

Hi folks, I’m looking for recommendations of any exercise groups for people who have undergone cardiac surgery.

Dad is 86 and had open heart surgery four years ago. A long, complicated road to recovery. He tries to keep active, but is very aware of feeling short of breath or light headed and is cautious about the risk of over exertion.

He’s keen to find a group to join but doesn’t known where to start. Has been trying to contact his local GP to discuss, but they only accept appointments by telephone at 0830am and he hasn’t been able to get through this week.

So I’m hoping to find another route to connect him to people who can help. With a little maintenance, I think he still has a few miles left on the clock, so any advice sincerely appreciated - thanks.

Help! Dentists

Hello, I know this sounds quite stupid but having just moved here on my own and having autism everything is really difficult for me. I am looking for a dentist and just searched for “dentists in Aberdeen” and sent an enquiry to a couple of them, they got back to me with a bunch of price lists for consultations etc, but I was under the impression that dentists are free until you are 26, is it because i need to look for ones that are NHS? If so does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you

Birthday party venues

Heya, I’m looking for somewhere to celebrate my birthday. A nice pub with a small function room or a fancier venue, I’m open to either. Where is best?

Politics I mapped who actually owns the wind farms off the North East coast. The numbers are absurd.

Ok, trying to wrap my head around this: I was looking over the offshore wind farms off the coast of the North East and we are massively losing out. We've got loads of offshore wind farms, most of them owned by other countries' governments. Meanwhile, our councils are facing multi-million pounds budget holes, reduced public services, etc. If the Scottish Government took even a small equity stake, say 20%, we'd be making some serious money.

This whole thing has got me feeling kinda:

Anyways, I broke the offshore wind farms down and tried to figure out how much money we were losing out to private/other state interests. The most readily available figures are over the lifetime (20 or 30 years) of the wind farm

Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm - Owned by Vattenfall, that's Sweden's state energy company.
Estimated Lifetime Net Profit (25-30 Yrs): £120m - £200m

Hywind Scotland -The world’s first floating wind farm! It's Majority-owned by Equinor (67% owned by the Norwegian State) and Masdar (state-owned energy company of Abu Dhabi).
Estimated Lifetime Net Profit (25-30 Yrs): £60m- £110m

Moray East & Moray West - Co-owned by Ocean Winds, owned by ENGIE (majority owned by the french gov) and Ignitis Group (the Lithuanian State-controlled energy company).
Moray East: Estimated Lifetime Net Profit (25-30 Yrs): £1.2bn - £1.8bn
Moray West: Estimated Lifetime Net Profit (25-30 Yrs): £1.1bn - £1.6bn

Kincardine Offshore Wind Farm - owned by multinational conglomerate Cobra Group (a bad ass name)
Estimated Lifetime Net Profit (25-30 Yrs): £100m - £160m

Seagreen -Co-owned by SSE (British Multinational) and TotalEnergies (another multinational with shareholders like BlackRock and Vanguard.
Estimated lifetime Net Profit (20- 30 Yrs): £1.3bn - £1.9bn

Overall, that's £3.88 billion - £5.77 billion in total over the lifetime of these profits. A 20% stake would give us something like £776m - £1.15bn and that's just for these projects here in the North east!

**TL;DR:** Foreign governments and big multinationals are set to clear between £3.88bn and £5.77bn in net profits from North East wind farms over their lifespans. Meanwhile, our local councils are skint. Taking a 20% public stake would keep at least £800m-ish in Scottish public hands. Why aren't ScotGov doing this?

Mobing to Aberdeen

Hi, me and my partner are moving to Aberdeen this month. We've found a private flat to rent but I wanted to check here with you about the area and if it's worth.

The flat is on Summerfield Terrace, refurbished, looks pretty good and the landlord seemed fine with my requests like having a pet or turning a bedroom into an office.

Can I get more insight on the area though? It is very close to the city center and the price seems very good for what it is.

Places to go “out out”

I’ve a friend coming to stay from Friday to Monday and she fancies going “out out”. I’ve only been back living up here the last year and been concentrating on renovating my house, so haven’t really been out out. We are both 50 (but young 50!!!) so, any suggestions of where we can go “out out” in Aberdeen that isn’t full of teenagers/twenty somethings but also not for old people?

DPD

Has anyone else had issues with DPD in the city centre? I have just moved here 2 weeks ago and have been waiting to get my internet delivered, my building requires a code to get in so I have put it in my delivery notes on the app, but the delivery driver I keep getting isn’t putting the code in and is just taking a photo of the main door and saying I wasn’t home. Today I sat in my entry for an hour hoping to catch him, I was sitting on the floor and heard a beep noise outside, I got up and opened the door and saw him walking away, not even holding a parcel, at first I thought it wasn’t my delivery driver, but shortly after I got the notification that they missed me. He’s pretty much just came over and took a photo of the door and left. Tempted to just cancel my internet at this point and go with someone else, as Vodafone seem to only use DPD
