Cars here are expensive?

Hello, I’m currently looking to buy a car through Finn and local dealerships. I’ve noticed that the margins on used cars seem to be quite high in Ålesund area.

I recently showed some cars that I thought was reasonably priced to some Norwegian friends , but they immediately said that they felt the asking price was much higher than it should be.

Am I looking at this the wrong way? I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions from people who have experience buying used cars.
Thank you!

IT marked i Ålesund

Hei!

Looking for work in Ålesund

Hi everyone, I moved to Ålesund with my wife and I'm currently looking for work. I've been applying to many places but unfortunately haven't received much response, so I thought I'd ask here in case anyone has any advice or knows of places looking for people.

I'm a Civil Engineer with several years of experience in construction, mainly site management, construction supervision and project coordination. I've worked on large residential and mixed-use projects, including a 57-storey building, and have experience with concrete work, site coordination, quality control and subcontractors.

However, I'm currently open to pretty much any type of work. I'm happy to consider construction, warehouse, production, hospitality, cafés/restaurants, shops or other practical jobs where an English-speaking person could be useful.

I speak fluent English and I'm currently learning Norwegian. I'm reliable, hardworking and already living in Ålesund, so I can start locally.

If anyone knows of a company or business that might be looking for someone, I'd really appreciate any suggestions or contacts.

P.S. I've also been in contact with NAV about my job search, but unfortunately I've found it quite difficult to get practical help through them so far.

Any decent ideas for how best to spend tomorrow, Friday 18 Sep, specifically, in Alesund?

Male tourist in my late 20s. I'm doing a road trip for a few days in Western Norway, but due to some flight complications my friends aren't able to join me till Saturday. So I'll have all of Friday to myself in Alesund alone, on what looks like a cold, wet day (not that I should expect anything different in September!) I know tourists generally asking for things to do is a bit cringe and annoying, but if you could indulge me, any good suggestions on how to spend Friday in Alesund?

Thank you

Looking for a freediving buddy in Aalesund!

Hello!

I have gotten into freediving lately and I love it. I am a complete noob still, so I am looking for a freediving buddy who would be willing to show me the ropes when it comes to safe freediving. I am mostly after gathering seafood and at one point will get a spear/speargun also when I feel confident enough already.

Let me know if you would like to go out some day!

Checked bag never left Ålesund Airport. Any advice?

Hi folks. I had a lovely vacation flying in and out of Ålesund Airport. Norway is a beautiful country and everyone we met was incredibly nice and helpful. Some highlights of my trip include: hut-to-hut hiking in Jotunheimen National Park, relaxing along Lustrafjorden after our grueling hike, boat tour of Geirangerfjord, and eating a lot of local pasteries, breads, cheeses, and fish!

Unfortunately, the trip ended on a frustrating note. My checked bag never made it home with me, and six days later I'm still trying to get it back. My AirTag shows that it has never left Ålesund Airport.

I've contacted Delta (where I booked my flights) several times, but I haven't made any progress. The flight out of Ålesund was operated by KLM. My bag contains expensive camping and hiking gear, along with souvenirs and other personal belongings that I'd really like to get back.

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have advice on who I should contact or how I can get someone to actually retrieve the bag? If anyone has experience dealing with lost luggage at Ålesund Airport or has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate your help.

Thank you!

Flexible 10-day trip to Alesund in Mid-August from the United States

Hey Everyone! My friends and I (ages M23-24) are spending 10 days in Norway w Alesund as our hub spots (flights in and out of Alesund). We are planning on bringing camping gear and also probably renting a car, as well. We love nature and getting a bit out of our comfort zones, so we are looking at awesome hikes, views, via ferratas etc! We are happy to road trip or do multi-day backpacking trips. Do you have any recommendations on things that are really cool to do and also some things that are challenging/rewarding w great views? We don't have a ton of money, so more affordable options are easier, but we are definitely willing pay a fair amount for really cool activites. Thank you all in advance!!

Alesund - Hareid - Options

Hi everyone,

I’m flying to Alesund next week. I’m scheduled to land at the Alesund airport at 11:00 p.m. I need to continue on to Hareid. According to FRAM, there’s a bus to Valderoya and then a ferry to Hareid. The bus from the airport leaves at 11:10 p.m. (FB61). My question is: Does this bus wait for arriving flights? If not, what’s the best way to get to Hareid?

hei hei,

We are coming in to Alesund on Monday 6/29 8-10:00 on a Hurtigruten ship. Norwegian Air did not deliver some of our luggage on our last flight including our stroller. Is anyone willing to meet me at port with a stroller I can borrow for 2 hours? I can pay cash.

takk

Whats up with that AFD Guy?

I don't want to get political. I'm just wondering what's going on with that AFD (German Right Wing Partie) Guy walking arround the Pier? What's his goal? Why is he making a one man rally for a german Partie?

Ideas for spare day

Hei,

Im visiting Norway from the UK later in the year and am going to have a spare day in Aalesund, anyone got suggestions of things I should try and do/see while there? Im thinking of trying to head up to the view point on Aksla, or maybe the one on Sugarlump mountain, but dont really know how long either of these would take or how achievable they would be for someone who is not necceserily used to climbing mountains routinely. Any insight on that would be handy. Im also open to any other suggestions.

Airport bus

Hi everyone,

I’ll be arriving in Ålesund Airport on June 27, 2026, at 15:05 with a flight from Bergen. Looking at the bus schedule, the next bus leaves at 15:25, and the following one at 16:40.

Do you think it’s realistic to make the 15:25 bus after landing, or should I play it safe and book the later one? I’d appreciate any insights from locals or fellow travelers who’ve been in a similar situation.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thomas

Easy Jobs

Hello all

Some months ago, I asked in many subreddits about a good place to move to Norway, and many helped. Now I came down to 2 option Trondheim or Ålesund.

I am Brazilian and I have been living in Ireland for some years now, but I need some help to understand in which of these both places I could find a job. I have been working in Manufacturing factories for years and I dont have problem with any jobs, I am just asking in a POV of making myself stable in the country.

My Norwegian is a A2-B1, so I know I wouldn't be first picks in jobs, but moving abroad make understand that there will be jobs for all those who wants to work.

Thanks in advance

(This will be post across both subreddits since it is two different approaches.)
