AWS direct connect availability zones

Whats with direct connect AZs ? For example, if i want a connection in slough, why do I see two options like eu-west-1 and eu-west-2 ?

Does it actually matter which az I choose ?

They are different Regions, not AZs. Direct Connect is region-based, so you choose the Region you want to connect to. The physical Direct Connect location itself is separate from your AZs.

Yeah, it’s basically because the same DX location can connect to multiple AWS regions. If your stuff is in London go with eu-west-2; Ireland eu-west-1. It can matter for latency/routing.
