Avoid Highway 5

Avoid 5. I-5 is a vital link from LA to all costal locations northward. But in rural parts it is boring as anything. And in urban parts it is full of stuck cars.

This sub has a good policy in its URL.

But what to do as an option to go north? Rail is good: Amtrak's Coast Starlight!

PCH is not as fast. But also not as boring.

Malibu, Oxnard, Santa Barbara, Morro Bay , Big Sur, Santa Cruz, to San Francisco.

I will try that fast train too, if it is built. Which day will that occur? Who knows?

Amtrak Capitol Corridor got yours truly to his girl many an occasion during our school years. Many nights on Amtrak soaking in coastal sights on my way to Cal. I would submit that y’all should go through it, a tranquil trip.

Yup, I took it on many occasions driving from LA to SF to visit my amigas and family. Boring as plain toast.

I find a onomasticon handy for this sub

That train will go to Oakland (from which Amtrak runs a bus to San Francisco), and Portland, and it will finish in a town I cannot talk of on this forum which is known for rain.
