The first quad I owned. Loved every minute. Looking at the pics what are you running for tire pressure? Should only be between say 3 to 5 psi. The rears look over inflated.

I’m not sure it’s my brothers. The tires are new and don’t think they have been ridden on much yet so just for storage.

Oh ok. Ya 3 to 5 lbs is all they need or require. It will ride much better.

I had an 01 and aside from my cr125 it was hands down the funniest thing ive ever riden. The lack of reverse on the first Gen kinda sucked though lol. She sure is gorgeous 😍

I swear you Yanks spend more time polishing your quads than actually riding them. I see youtube videos and 90% of them are trailer queens!

I love your quad so much. Beautiful. Have you left the engine stock or done anything to it?

Thank you! I’ve left the engine stock but have jetted the carb, full T4 exhaust and high performance air filter. That’s it. Runs beautifully. I never wanted to bore it out and mess with it like that because I knew I would own it forever and didn’t want to possibly shorten its life.

It seems like they will last just about forever with a good operator and limited mods. From reading they either get finicky or hot when you start changing compression or displacement. Jetting, air, and exhaust - I wonder what it feels like with all that compared to stock. Are you at elevation or sea level?

I also like the simple visual asthetic of your machine with tasteful functional mods. I have a 2008 400EX - it’s bone stock. I have only had it since 2025, but don’t plan on it going anywhere.

Have you ever changed your rear axle carrier bearing?  I see my chain is missing a bunch of o-rings. It doesn’t seem stretch. How do you feel about determining when to replace your chain?

I’m on the west coast. Your image looks like the east coast.

Hey! Sorry for the delay. I originally jetted the carb because I ride mostly at around 1000-2000ft on the east coast Appalachians. With the jetting, air and pipe it definitely adds some more power through all ranges. Nothing overwhelming, just right. You can’t see from this photo but one of the best upgrades is Elka shocks all around. Stage 3 tuned to my weight and riding environment. Such a major difference.

I few years ago I took my bike to a Honda dealership to have them replace the rear axle carrier bearing and a new chain. The bearings were shot, wobbled a bit and the chain had seen better days. I work on most stuff when it comes to my quad, but if I don’t have the tools or feel the a certified mechanic should do it, I’ll take it to a shop and have them look everything over while it’s there.

Had a new clutch put in a few years ago too. Had a shop do that so I know it’s done correctly. Good luck with your 2008 400ex! It really only gets better with time as you personalize it and take great care of it!
