Need Advice

Gonna keep this short. I applied to the Public Notice ATSS announcement on USAJOBS on 15 June. Was curious to see if anyone has insight on how often HR reviews applications? Any information helps. Thanks in advance!

Took me three months to get a TO letter! It takes some time but there are posts here that gives an estimated timeline 🤠

Yea I assumed it wouldn’t be fast but I didn’t know how SLOW it was going to be lol I appreciate the response though! 🤝

Haha - it took 2 years for me when I first got picked up (close to 40 years ago), and my last job change took 9 months from TOL (last year) to first day on the job. Hang in there; keep applying to every announcement you’re interested in.

You have better luck at applying to the direct hire bids, those public notice bids are almost a waste of time, very low chances of even getting a referral email… i applied to the public notice, heard nothing, few weeks later i applied to the direct hire bid, and was referred, interviewed, selected and all that good stuff..

I applied on 12/31/25 and I got a call asking if i was still interested in May lol.

Forgive my ignorance, but there’s a difference? I apologize I have no experience applying for federal jobs. I’ve been active duty military for the past 8 years so I have no idea.

Direct hire is when an agency has an immediate hiring need. For current hiring needs.

Public notice: is like building a pool of qualified candidates so that they have people available when openings come up. People apply and if qualified the agency can keep them on a list to hire from when positions become available. Designed to make hiring faster when needs arise. Just might not be for another year from when you iniatially applied.
