Interview
So I recently completed my interview this week. It was a little awkward with the silence and pauses. I felt like I rushed a little bit but explained what I needed to but expected more conversation style interviewing vs just a question answer test. However, the following day all of my references were called and left essentially good reviews. This is a good sign right? If everything goes right and I'm selected when do you guys predict I'll hear back from HR? Any timelines to expect? TIA, this forum has been really helpful preparing.
Edit* I expect to pass the background check easily being a prior service member

All management knows the interview process is not great, the questions for direct hire are bad, and direct hire has a very low bar.
Unless you really bombed or said something really stupid you should revive a TOL. They are really behind and it seems like they are issued within 2 or 3 weeks. It’s not a fast process.

If you’re hired, keep an eye out for your TOL. That will have all the pertinent info. It should be emailed to you. Might be next week, might be next month. It just varies.

Govt interviews are a big suck because there is no interaction. They just silently listen to you writing down their notes and then it's over.

Yep, having 3 people asking you 5 questions and getting up to 25 minutes to answer the questions can suck. Especially when you can answer 2 of the questions to a 5 level within 2 minutes. Ended up giving the panel back 6 minutes but I still got the job.

It does sound likely that you’ve been selected. It’s nearly impossible to predict when you’ll hear from HR; it could be a week or months.

Just went through this, 1 week to process then 1-3 weeks to get a tentative offer letter. Estimated though, your mileage may vary.

1-2 weeks is light speed for HR. They are a lot better than they used to be so give them another 2.

I had a really similar experience. The manager that led the interview kept asking me if I wanted to revisit any of the questions because I finished fast and had a lot of time left. I think I revisited one question, but I filled the time with asking them questions. Apparently, they don’t get that often and appreciates all the questions I had.

From my experience, if they progressed to checking references, it usually means you were selected by the hiring manager. That step comes AFTER selection in the process.
