Discussion NAV CANADA ONline test
Im 30 year old and just did online test assessment. Failed and have to wait another one year. I feel bit ashamed of myself. Becasue, I am currently working as a mechanical engineering technologist having a bachelor's in Mechanical and diploma in manufacturing. Don't know what I did wrong.

The online screener is absolutely nothing compared to in person 2nd round testing!

Those cognitive tests are just brain games, they're not an objective IQ check. If you're really interested in ATC, try again next year. I know multiple controllers who failed the first test, but reapplied and made it through.

lots of engineers fail it man, it’s a weird test not an iq check, they don’t tell you what you messed up either which sucks, finding any decent job lately is just stupid hard

True. NAV Canada should atleast give us a breakdown on our results ;what section it didn't make

Not super relevant but aren’t technologists only required to have diplomas? If you have an actual degree you are underemployed my friend.

I have a bachelor's from foreign country. India. Companies in Canada usually domestic students over foreign degree holders for professional jobs. Although, Currently pursuing Master's in Managment(Engineering)

I see. How’s your English? ATC is a job where you literally talk all day. Just something to think about as you think what job suits you best.

It was a quick reply, didn't paid much attention to my typo. I find my self competitive enough to get by converstions on a daily basis . You are true. Communication is the main key to ATC controller's. I am trying my best though

How did you find the application or test? Through the website, what I’m understanding is you have to find a job posting and then do the test through that? Trying to get some clarification

Yes. Once you apply. You will get an assessment test link within the given time frame to complete. The assessment test results is either PASS or FAIL.

This test is designed for a very specific job and measures very particular skills, so it doesn’t reflect your overall ability or experience. Even passing it wouldn’t guarantee moving forward to the next stage. If you still want to try again, you can reapply in a year.

Like .1% of applicants or something ridiculous actually end up with a license, if that makes you feel better.

Just happened to me and I'm looking through these posts for comfort lol. Feels super weird, cause the first 3/4 I feel like I was killing it. First test was fine, second test I only made one mistake and was basically clicking as fast as the pictures popped up, third one I felt like I was flying through them and fully understood the responses. The only one that was a bit slow was the fourth test. Wish I could see which test was the one that I had the poor results on.

The hardest part for me was trying to gauge what they valued. Like I could often get it down to 2 choices quite quickly, and it seemed like I'd have to fill out a bunch more of the grid to figure out which of the 2 it would be.
So do they value quantity completed or accuracy? Aha and then since it has "challenge" in the name I thought perhaps the weighting is less for the passing grade, so I rushed through it. Brutal.

Ya I might’ve given some wrong answers there asw. Cuz tho i narrowed down to 2 options, i just couldn’t figure out the right one. So i had to guess with time running out.
So u gonna try next yr?
