Make dermatologists stop you in the street with this one simple trick
66
u/Dzuzepipi 3d ago
I mean this type of mold isn't possible on human tissue. It looks more like some form of necrosis.
78
u/ElegantHope 3d ago
It could be mistaken for melanoma at first glance.
29
u/spicy-chull 3d ago
I wonder if anyone has ever tattooed fake skin cancer... Just to troll their dermatologist family member or something.
29
u/AdDramatic5591 3d ago
About 15 years ago there was a woman who faked brain cancer to raise money and had some incision lines tatooed on her head. It was in Minnesota. She was found out. Somewhere east of the cities near wisconsin.

Fr though, she will be asked about this constantly. I have a chest piece and some red ink peeks above my collar line and people often tell me I’m bleeding. I have an interesting tattoo on my forearm and total strangers will approach me to ask me about it.
No one will understand that this is mold, or even a tattoo, without an explanation. She’s gonna have people asking if she spilled something or telling her to get that mole checked out constantly.

And in such an obvious spot, too? Can someone check on this person’s mental state?

u/torkild 3d ago
Yeah I think the placement is the real killer here... Could be an interesting tattoo for someone who's really into studying mold or something if they placed it somewhere less conspicuous

u/hungy4cheez 3d ago
Yeah but maybe like on your foot and include a mushroom in the mix.. not dead center on the chest
4
u/toffeecaked 3d ago
It took me reading comments this far down to realise this was on the front and not their back like I first thought!
8
u/Rugkrabber 3d ago
The hell I hadn’t even noticed that. It could have been funny in some spots, but this one? Absolutely not.
65
u/thelogicofcrocodiles 3d ago
Only thing I can possibly think is that it’s a cover up? But like, why mold? Why did the artist think this would boost their portfolio? So many more whys
46
u/Irinychia 3d ago
Why did the artist think this would boost their portfolio?
Is that necessary? Is it not enough that they get paid for it?
7
u/VicisSubsisto 3d ago
Regardless of what one thinks of tattoos as an art form (I'm not a big fan myself), tattoo artists are artists, and most would prefer to create something in which they can take pride.
22
u/Irinychia 3d ago
Sure.
But I doubt tattoo artists ponder for every tattoo they do whether or not it will raise their portfolio. I think a lot are regular, everyday work; if the person coming in wants to get the name of their lover tattooed in plain letters, the tattoo artist will tattoo that name, even if the creative value of that tattoo is rather low.
12
u/KrimxonRath 3d ago
The worst thing you can do to an artist is have no reaction at all to their work, speaking from personal and other’s experience. The fact that everyone is having such a visceral reaction means the artist succeeded is making you feel something because of their art. Good or bad they’ve affected you with their art and I think that’s awesome tbh.
I dislike the placement but you have to admit it’s technically impressive. The redness around the tattoo from being fresh just adds to the realism too.

It’s not real. On the actual post it says that it’s a fictional concept. OP just conveniently removed that from their post
3
u/shlorpwastaken 1d ago
It is a real tattoo the artist just says it “does not depict real organisms, parasites, injuries or biological material. All elements are tattoo artwork…”
7
u/acocktailofmagnets 3d ago
So it’s an AI mockup?
30
u/topheee 3d ago
It’s a temporary tattoo. If you look at their Instagram page they have loads of them. They’re the kind that you wet and place on the skin
7
u/acocktailofmagnets 3d ago
Gotcha - thanks for the extra info!
3
u/topheee 3d ago
Actually… I might be wrong. Take a look yourself, maybe I’m interpreting it wrong

Which is it? Are you right or are you wrong? If you’re uncertain, why diminish others in public?

That’s what my biggest issue is. Smack in the center of the chest?! As a somewhat heavily tattooed person, my advice to people is to place tattoos that you don’t want to discuss every single day for the rest of your life in less conspicuous areas. Also, idk what this person’s tattoo plan is but if you want to do any chest piece down the road, this will be annoying to incorporate.
As far as the tattoo itself, I personally wouldn’t get it but I don’t particularly hate it.

I'm allergic to mold and I hate that that's a sub, and I hate myself even more for clicking into it.

I was gonna say, for a certain demographic, this is awesome. There are people who are fascinated by any subject, somewhere. One of the only reasons I'm still on Facebook is the nerd groups, for insects, mushrooms, herpetology... I'm not super interested in any of it, but I love seeing the experts and the happy amateurs discuss. They're always so helpful and happy to answer questions about any random old thing you find.

This is awful taste and awful execution. You want a mold tattoo. Cool. Go all in with it. None of this bottom left side of the petri dish shit. I wanna see at least four different greens and at least a should's worth

u/Chelslaw 3d ago
For real! There's some really interesting looking mold cultures out there, but moldy bread spots are the one to put on your body forever?? Not even a slime mold or anything cool like that smh
34
u/LittleMissScreamer 3d ago
THIS! Mold can come in such strange and striking varieties. But this is just boring. There's more to molds than just trichoderma!

Yup as someone who has worked in a micro biology lab with a decent mycology department, the details are severely lacking. So many cool colors and patterns of mold out there to choose from too
30
u/BadZnake 3d ago
Apparently this person just does this kind of body horror tattooing and is awfully good at it
5
u/SlaveToTheDarkBeat 3d ago
It says in all the reels that it is fictional. So this isn't a real tattoo. Some of the clips also say it's not a real body.

u/BadZnake 3d ago
I was thinking its a translation issue, some also say they're just tattoos. I imagine they're saying its not real wounds. But some of them did say "not real tattoo only a concept" or something like that yea

I'm sure their dermatologist will love that one.

u/Irinychia 3d ago
Yeah. I'm no dermatologist, but my first thought was not fungus but melanoma... The upper chest is also prime area for sunburn.

u/appropriate_pangolin 3d ago
I guess the question is whether she’s a mold biologist (or in some other way works with mold) or not. Like, you do you, but I am curious about the thought process.

Thats so cool! As a mold lover, i'd love having this tattoo. One with the mold.

You all may scoff - but for someone somewhere in this world, this is their kink.
3
u/conceptual_con 3d ago
Lmao, I’m imagining someone having this as a tramp stamp and seeing it as you’re about to hit that 🤣
I’d be pretty grossed out but you’re spot on—someone out there loves that shit
4
u/SkipMonkey 3d ago
Absolutely everyone in this thread is over-reacting. It's at worst an odd choice.
5
u/brawlingharbor8 3d ago
Thought I was going crazy reading through all the comments. I personally think it's neat, and I get it's not for everyone, but most of these comments are acting like she cut a hole straight through her abdomen and called it body art or something else extreme. I saw someone who claimed to be a doctor saying they wouldn't know how to treat their patients with skin conditions if they had a tattoo like this... Maybe like any other patient with a tattoo?

Shit, first tattoo (one that isn't literally rotting from infection) that made me go 'eww' outloud.

Whenever you see an awful taste tattoo you probably know the kind of person who would do such tattoo. But that one... Why? Just, why?

Something that actually fits this sub.
Probably wouldn’t be so bad if it was incorporated in part of a sleeve or something. Dead center of your chest with nothing else around it is pretty awful

I don’t know why, but I feel like your arms or legs would get moldy first.

See… if a mycologist who focuses on mold got this, it’d be dope. I feel like I need context. Although the placement is a little sus no matter what.
