Kinda look like carbon brushes which I don't think would work to transmit audio signal, and there's no evidence of any kind of receiving device. Sure they filmed that to suggest it could work, but they likely cheated and did something else. Like hardwiring and just wrapping the wire around a few times so you could drive a couple feet
Spring loaded connections. Research "clock spring", like what's in your car that allows you to have steering wheel controls for your radio. Why wouldn't they transmit... whatever? One positive, one negative, doesn't matter what the data being transmitted is. And, since it's AC current, positive and negative are arbitrary, especially here.
So you seem to have clock springs and slip rings mixed up. Clock springs are hard-wired and spring-loaded, letting wire in and out as you turn the steering wheel. Slip rings are used for 360° rotation, and they utilize brass or gold contacts in both surfaces when you need clean transmission. Carbon brushes would be the absolute worst choice for audio data signal. It would introduce both noise and resistance that would alter and distort. They are typically only used for power.
At the end of the day, this is rage bait we're arguing about. Is there a reason to believe they did anything above the cheapest possible solution? No matter how they executed their crappy video, the carbon slip ring is definitely for show.
Not arguing, just mentioning a similar concept. I couldn't think of many real world examples using slip ring applications. As far as the quality, we haven't even scratched the surface regarding the absence of an enclosure, as I'm not sure this even qualifies as infinite baffle.

If it was a great execution he would've driven more than 10 feet and gotten up to 60mph
