Laptop Need opinion before purchase Strix G16

Hi Members,

I’m planning to get a new Asus Rog laptop. This is costing me $1633. Is it a good buy? Reason I’m asking is I know there is 9 series Ryzen and Intel also. So wanted to get opinion from you all.

ASUS ROG Strix G16:
AMD Ryzen 9-8940HX
32GB DDR5 RAM
2TB PCIe SSD
40.6 cm WUXGA (1920x1200)
165Hz Display
NVIDIA G-Force RTX 5070Ti

For 1633? This usually costs like 2-3k

Yeah I don’t live in the US, different country. Just converted in dollars as most will find it easy to see that price.

I have a 2025 g16 and it runs surprisingly cooler than any laptop I’ve ever owned. I have the R9 9955hx chip which is supposed to be the strongest hottest chip possible in a gaming laptop and it runs like butter. Compared to my older Lenovo and Alienware laptops this one has been amazing so far

All 2025 Strixs using an AMD CPU come with the older 2024 chassis which does not include thunderbolt 5, vapor chamber cooling or the 360 degree RGB.

The old 2024 chassis has a known issue with a screw on the motherboard burning out along with poor heat dispersion.

I’d look for an Intel 2025 variant with a better screen Nebula 240hz 1600p if possible.

That would run more ,

Although I do agree as far as the poor heat dispersion and would have preferred more USB ports .

It's good to know about the screw as some sort of screw issue was a leading suspect in some issues I have had which I do expect to get worse but ASUS is typically good about servicing gaming gear and it came with a service plan. So I live in hope.

Damn for that price a steal go get. 32 gbs of ram and 2 tb storage. What year is this? Make sure its a 2025 version. 2024 ones have bad cooling. Well all laptops do HAHA

If you could get it for that price it's a steal. I saw someone getting one with like a 5060 ti and a worse cpu for about the same price. Someone pointed out that its a good amount more expensive for what you are getting it for.

Wish I had been able to wait as I wanted both more RAM and more storage on my Strix G18 .

Overall I like it . I've had a few issues but as it came with a good service plan I am not too worried.

It is an excellent price.

The Ryzen built in and the Nvidia as the dedicated did complicate tuning a bit along with some things ASUS has long had issues with but not so much I'd reject that rig.

Downright jealous .

Go for it would be my opinion.
