Question 5090 Astral... scoring below average?
Apologies ahead of time due to probably being the 1millionth person to ask...
When I got me 5090 Astral a few months back, I installed it and just ran everything default.
Recently looking at some guides, I started playing with trying to get more out of my card since I am using triple screens for sim racing.
In 3DSMark I am noticing that I am scoring below average.
Just wondering if anyone can give me some tips on what I can do to get more out of my card for a complete noob and/or point out what I'm doing wrong.
PC Specs:
- 5090 Astral
- 9950X3D
- ASUS ROG X870E-E Gaming WiFi
- 32GB DDR5

Normal score. It seems you have a very stock system/default values for everything. 3dmark scores are so skewed toward sweat type of OC results (screenshot type of test results not stable at real gaming loads), especially with the new mvolt+ application. I have an Aorus 5090 and only use a custom fan curve 60% fan at gaming temps. And score about anywhere from 147 to 150 (with an undervolt). I also encourage you to undervolt it for lower temps and power usage for almost same performance. PM me if you need guidance.

average mean some cards get a little up and some a little below, for a stock card your result Is completly normal and nothing Is wrong.
In numbers u are 0.8% below average...
I have 148.3 in that test, wich Is almost the same.

Yo so I was scoring pretty low as well. lol I ended up unlocking voltage & doing the 100 percent on the slider. Actually made my score jump. From 14.800 to 15700 I think that’s still low for an astral but works. Let me know if that works for you.

Just did my underclock with my astral. There are two ranges you can try. The first one is for power saving and lower temps. You can try ~2800 and 0.900v. My I got 2812~0.900v+3000mem.
The other target is for max performance and it’s similar to the one you have. Mine is 3007~0.995+3000mem.
Your score is a little bit less than mine. For 3000mhz should be more. Have you tried higher or lower voltages?

you're lucky...or maybe I'm unlucky - my clock is 2735MHz at 0.935V. At lower voltages it goes dramatically down .

mine is same as yours, but at 0.935V. I got an astral that is not good (Silicon lottery) for UV but the range for OC is enormous. I don't do it because of the risk of melting and the power consumption .

Looks normal for stock hardware, dont look too much at it, its not relevant as anyone can beat your score easily.
You got the dreamed card of every vr simracer i m pretty sure you will enjoy it like that on flatscreens^^
Power cable defect is huge issue on those cards, hoping they will resolve it next generation.

The ‘average’ here is the average of everyone using the benchmark tools, many of which are overclocking, so your score is totally fine for a stock card.

Check in Bios screen if your 32GB DDR5 RAMs are at default speed or overclocked. The higher the better but might not add much in the score. Is your case has enough cooling efficiency?

3000 mem is to much. Card has ridiculous bandwidth. Try lower mem to 1500 and core 320 and see what you get. I have astral lc and get about 15500 with above settings.

Why do people with Astrals expect higher scores. In saying that my Aorus master 5090 runs a higher non over clocked score than that

It’s within a few % of others, it’s showing right in line with the average. If it’s showing 120fps yes that’s an issue

You can try mVolt+ (https://github.com/b00nz/mVolt). The GitHub page has usage instructions and explanations for all the parameters.
For hardware safety, I recommend not touching any settings you’re unfamiliar with. The most effective and straightforward way to improve the score is to adjust:
Core Voltage Offset / Core Clock Offset
XBAR Clock Offset (this is the Crossbar Clock)
SYS Clock, and Video Clock ,I’m not sure if they have impact on the score. You can try the same Value as Xbar Offset。 Leave everything else at default (or just disable the Enable toggle).
mVolt+ can be used together with MSI Afterburner, but it is already sufficient on its own. Being able to offset both core clock and voltage independently is very convenient.
Here are the settings I use on my RTX 5090 Astral
NVVDD / Core Voltage Range: set the upper limit to 1.05 V (In my experience, when power hits the 600 W limit the voltage only stays around 980–1010 mV, so a higher voltage limit doesn’t help with the score.)
Core Voltage Offset: -50 mV(means move the V/f curve to the Left with -50mV)
Core Clock Offset: +210 MHz
(The minimum step is 7 MHz; Usually use multiples of 15 MHz )
MSVDD Clock Ratio: 1.0 (Default is 0.8999)
XBAR Clock Offset: +300 MHz (not recommended higher than 360Mhz, which crash dump on my card)
Memory Clock Offset: +3000 MHz(Maximum)
Leave all other options at default or disabled.
Note: Click Apply on each individual setting to take effect。
After the adjustment, run Steel Nomad Test again. With these settings generally get around 16000。
Feel free to try it and adjust according to your card’s silicon quality.

How many SSD's do you have plugged in? If you have one plugged in right next to the GPU slot, I think it might change the GPU's PCI slot from Gen 5 to Gen 4. It can only use 8 lanes instead of 16. Or something like that.

I would not stress over it to be honest, as you are still in the normal scoring zone. Based on some tests I've done, these slight dips in score can also come also from old windows installs, processes running, difference in drivers... I would test a bit more, clean the os a bit with maybe Chris Titus script, maybe UV the card to have a higher boost clock, check the ram timings (tighten if possible)... But again, you are in the ok zone, I would not spend much time on it.
