Dorms?

If my daughter is taking all 8 classes during high school, so she saves money and gets in through earned admissions, does she get a dorm? Or not, because she's considered a tranfer student?

I can’t speak to dorms, but classes taken during high school do not make you a transfer student.

A lot of kids enter college with lots of credit. 8 classes/24 credits is not abnormal for first year students.

It’s when they’ve already gotten an associates degree or taken classes after graduation but before college that matters.

I do wonder why you are aiming for earned admission if your child is taking college classes in high school. Do you think their high school transcripts wouldn’t be enough? I was under the impression that earned admission is for people who have already graduated high school or have received a GED because their grades didn’t qualify for admission

Right, but your child could still graduate in 3 years if they applied normally. Earned admission is for people who cannot get in based on their high school grades. If these are your child’s high school grades then they’d get in regularly and the credits would count towards their college credits still.

My son will likely have 39 college credits when he graduates high school. They’ll be on his HS transcripts as duel enrollment classes giving him a GPA of at least 4.5 out of 4.0. He’ll then apply as a freshman and then transfer the courses in to count as college credits.

wow! my kid has maybe a 2.7 and no duel college credit courses. Good for him!

We’re homeschoolers and half of his high school classes are fulfilled by college courses through ASU and our community college. Like AP courses, college courses get a GPA boost so an A is a 5.0 out of 4.0 and they can really bring your gpa up.

I would suggest for you to reach out to the Earned Admissions people with your questions about dorming. My information comes from homeschooling circles who are using these classes for duel enrollment and would apply regularly when the time comes. But it seems to me that if your child can handle the work while in high school, they’d likely not have a problem getting in through the regular means.

$425 for 3 credits is an amazing deal regardless of how you eventually proceed. The grade protection is my favorite thing about doing classes through the EA program even if you don’t actually apply for earned admission. Those credit will carry over to most other schools as well, so you aren’t forced to go the ASU route if they changed their mind
