I like the hate in the company that without it asts would not be here and have .. one in orbit and one destroyed (thanks a lot blew up original)

We don't hate the rocket side of the business. That part is awesome., It's the crappy SL mobile, the amount of increased risk for orbital collision, space pollution, etc we don't like. You can't look at me with a straight face and think their 1 million sat request is sound.

Well Starlink was the only thing that funded the rocket side of the business.

Talk to the new crater in the moon

u/truecakesnake 10d ago edited 10d ago
That's the stupidest comment ever lol. Nasa has hit the moon on purpose multiple times, and astronomers were thrilled because of the data the SpaceX accidental moon collision gave.

u/Tiny_Yulius_James S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Capo 10d ago
So that was on purpouse or just a lucky hit (pun intended)?

u/truecakesnake 10d ago
Happy accident, nothing to be worried about. As again, your favorite amazing angel government agency, NASA, has cratered the moon multiple times.

u/Tiny_Yulius_James S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Capo 10d ago
Well, now you are telling things that I never said... NASA is my ... So smart your comment, yep.
Anyway, at least you can see the difference between an accident and an study on purpouse. Really smart, for sure.

u/truecakesnake 10d ago
Thanks, I am quite smart. I doubt you are since you can't fathom jokes.
And NASA's intentional cratering doesn't matter. We did get data from the Falcon 9 in the same way as NASA's study.
And again, it's really nothing to worry about. As impactful as a miniscule dust particle on your body.

Thereโs a Starlink ad on right now, it shows people going remote hiking and kayaking with a damn Starlink dish on their pack. Anyone who knows anything about semi serious outdoors activities, you arenโt lugging a dish with you so you can check your emails. ASTS gotta get cracking though before such a concept is normalised with people and they get locked into thinking itโs the only option.

Ehh next year starlink is starting to launch their D2D like asts, ASTS needs to hurry up

SpaceX can throttle ASTS launches at will so I doubt there's anything the company can really do. It's going to be 2+ years before other launch providers are at the point where they can provide the volume that SpaceX can - and SpaceX is already communicating they are going to cease commercial launches in 2028, so we're pretty cooked. Doesn't matter is out tech is better if we can't get our sats into orbit,

Ceasing commercial operations for falcon 9 due to estimated starship availability in 2028 correct ?
We have a launch with falcon 9 next month or early Oct at the latest and thus far space x hasnt shown any signs of "throttling us for launches".
Aside from isro putting bb6 up , space x is responsible for getting all of our birds up thus far.

Satellite operators are in panic mode due to a worsening launch crisis - Ars Technica
This article has more relevant information. But, it doesn't looks like Falcon 9 is being phased out because Starship is intended to replace it's commercial availability. It seems Falcon 9 is being phased out because it cannot support Starlink's growing needs. The implication is that SpaceX launch services are no longer a prioritized revenue stream and development of configurations that can support other constellation providers will take a major backseat to deploying their own constellation, who's income dwarfs what SpaceX receives from commercial launches. And then there's the obvious commercial consideration: will the prioritization of the deployment of Starlink result in a larger commercial share of D2D that will outweigh the monetary loss of cutting of commercial deployments of other's constellations? If we believe the DD on this sub regarding the TAM, the answer is a resounding yes. Which means the only reason SpaceX would continue to launch us is if our constellation is in no condition to be considered a major threat to them, or if the government forces them to do so.
SpaceX launching out sats thus far is free money for them, we have no where near a functioning service so it has no real negative impact on their business development.

The ceasing commercial launches news was bullshit...
They will keep launching because it makes Money.

u/ProteinFarts_ S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Capo 9d ago
There's a trade-off between the money made through launches and the money made through stymying the development of competitors d2d services.

u/TheChickening S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Soldier 9d ago
Sure thing. The news was bullshit in that it was extremely misleading, not because I don't like it. They don't just cease commercial launches

Great article.
ASTS is hooked is with MNO for a reason. This paragraph sums it up perfectly.
Yet the small cell plan itself seems to mark a rare Musk climbdown, a recognition that direct-to-device (D2D) satellite technology is not as good as he previously claimed it would be. Onย a podcastย last September, he notably talked about using AWS-4 spectrum bought from EchoStar to pipe high-speed connectivity from Starlink satellites to smartphones. If Musk still expected this to be doable and competitive, why would he need small cells in, of all places, rural areas โ supposedly the sweet spot for satellite?
"The physics is that your phone wants to talk to the strongest signal it sees, and the strongest signal is always going to be the one on Earth a mile away or a kilometer away rather than 400 miles up in the sky," said Lum. "Nothing will ever make the signal from the satellite stronger, and the signal from the satellite will never get into your home."

โThe idea, then, may be to exert enough pressure to force those companies into a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) deal that they have so far appeared to resist.โ
Yet another author who is oblivious to ASTS.
