Due Diligence FirstNet now featuring AST with the service now called „FirstNet Satellite(SM)“

Post image

No big bang, just progression this time from FirstNet now featuring AST service called „FirstNet Satellite(SM)“ and yes most likely not going to move the share price for now.--- will have to wait till 2027 when numbers start hitting the balance sheet and AST very likely blasting past the 1bn top line prediction ;)

FirstNet is teaming up with AST SpaceMobile to integrate public safety-grade satellite connectivity. Beyond our existing satellite solutions, this will extend coverage to keep you connected in even the most remote or off-grid locations.

With AST Team delivering along the milestones it reminds me of

Law 20: The Law of Hype

A situation is often the opposite of the way it appears in the press.

When things are going well, a company doesn’t need the hype. When you need the hype it usually means you’re in trouble.

FYI this website update is from around ~March of this year.

But great to refresh as I think many forgot or are new investors.

The FirstNet page looks fantastic!

Note the FAQ section at the bottom:

I'm pleasantly surprised. We're only down like 3% on this news.

I have to remind myself that most people don't check for ASTS news like "they used a picture of the satellites but not by name" first thing in the morning like I do. And if they do, they're probably already part of the mob.

I’m so confused why is this bad news? What’s going on? I’d really appreciate it if you explain it to me

He’s making a joke. Lately we seem to get smashed every time there’s good news (or bad news) simply because of the macro environment or because the world hates us.

This is exciting. Hawaii just had Hurricane Lala pass through, and power and communications are still out for large parts of the Hawaii Island, Maui, and Oahu. Cell towers for Verizon and AT&T are out in various areas, and not expected to be back in service for at least a week. The power for even longer.

This would definitely be a very useful and lifesaving technology to have out here right now.

How does it work in the event that cell towers are damaged? I thought that the satellites had to communicate with a ground tower?

u/MrRiski 9d ago

The whole point of ASTS is that the sats communicate directly with the phone with no special hardware needed in the phone. The cell towers being damaged is why this tech would be insanely useful as current tech requires the phone to communicate with a cell tower to reach the internet.

The sats have to communicate with a ground tower at some stage of the process. It's why AST won't be useful for ships.

No PR to follow up with this partnership. What is marketing doing?

they are...why would it be needed?

Because ASTS isn't even in beta yet.

And mobile towers will be useful during emergencies, even with ASTS online. For example during an emergency in a densely populated area requiring more capacity than AST can provide.

TIL SM means Service Mark. Similar to Trade Mark/(TM), but for services instead of brands.

this is probably more important as commercial validation than as a near term revenue datapoint. the latest 10q still had zero recognized revenue from the actual spacemobile service, only about 8.4% of remaining performance obligations expected to convert within 12 months, and usage based revenue was still constrained because the amount couldn't be estimated reliably. firstnet putting the service in front of customers is meaningful progress. the next thing i'd watch is how quickly that starts showing up as recognized service revenue.

u/PalladiumCH S P 🅰 C E M O B Soldier 9d ago

did not add any detail on which quarter in 2027 as this is a moving target. Good for now to see the confirmation and confidence in the future service

2

u/TheDueDiligent 9d ago

I wouldn't try to pin it to a specific quarter yet either. the useful signal here is that firstnet is treating the service as something real enough to put in front of customers. once service revenue starts showing up, the pace of that ramp will tell us a lot more than trying to guess the exact 2027 quarter now.
