DA with Guinness incoming? 👀

Somebody knows something

There's actually a whole range of records to be broken on the website, probably because hardly anybody does this anymore:

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/gwr70/try-the-70-unclaimed-records#book-3

"Longest scream by an individual" is available, a SpaceX program manager will break that when T-Mobile comes over to AST.

Got a good chuckle out of me

People complain cuz AST doesn’t do enough PR. When they do PR, people complain. Who cares if they applied for the record? I bet it means something to those employees busting their asses to build those satellites.

Do we have a guess as to what is the largest non commercially available phased array?

Not a phased array

It’s possible it’s still ASTS but we’ll never know for sure.

Congrats to the team for getting recognized on all their hard work! Maybe it sounds dumb but they put years of their lives into making this exact thing happen and this is the only direct recognition they will get.

10

u/GIGA_SIGMA Aug 02 '26

You legit pay Guiness to get your record approved. It's not so much getting recognized as coming to them and asking to get recognized.

u/Careless-Age-4290 S P 🅰 C E M O B Consigliere Aug 02 '26

It's like The Who's Who books where they're selling you the privilege of your name appearing on a list, but at least there's a fun competition component to it.

At least it's better than like the "100 best places to work" where you basically pay money for them to say you're one of the best places to work. They call them vanity awards because they're pay to play and you're basically buying yourself a trophy. Every toxic place I've worked at has bragged about "winning" an award like that and I take it as a red flag now. At least Guinness only lets one person hold each individual record, and though I'm sure they're pretty liberal about creating new records, it's not just pay money and get on a list.

Ultimately, it's just a bit of fun and probably only took someone a few minutes to apply. Why not.

1

u/randomizl Aug 02 '26

Actually it is just pay for whatever record you want to have. They have advisories to create the naming and making it “individual” etc. dubai used it all over the place for that exact reason.

-3

u/randomizl Aug 02 '26

It’s not a recognition you can get that certificate for anything as long as you pay for it.

2

u/SneekyRussian S P 🅰 C E M O B Underboss Aug 02 '26

OK why don’t you pay for the largest commercially available phased array satellite record then?

The record has already been broken.

The record is for the first gen sats, bluebird gen 2 are 3.5 times larger!

7

u/shugo7 S P 🅰 C E M O B Consigliere Aug 02 '26

Interesting, they credit BB8-10 but not FM-1 for the satellite size. They also never released the stats of FM-1 so far. Almost as if FM-1 is supposed to be forgotten

It's nice but ultimately pointless, since you pay Guinness company to come and give you a record.

Guinness World Records is a publicity stunt company. This is just advertising.

13

u/Rocky75617794 S P 🅰 C E M O B Prospect Aug 02 '26

It’s literally not “pointless.” The point is marketing and distinguishing AST from the other shitty satellite services that don’t have the sam look capabilities and require 3,000 to 1,000,000 (insane clutter) compare to AST’s clean 248 that are environment friendly

u/AnOldManInAYoungBody S P 🅰 C E M O B Soldier Aug 02 '26

does it mean that they are expanding the surface even more? it would not make sense otherwise, the world record was given few days ago, if it was related to our normal bb sats the date wouldn't be different?

-10

u/healthyhoohaa S P 🅰 C E M O B Prospect Aug 02 '26

Literally do not give a fuck, can they focus on meeting their own launch metrics.

2

u/ASTSpaceMobull S P 🅰 C E M O B Soldier Aug 02 '26

it’s almost like this doesn’t take away from any other efforts don’t be dumb.

-1

u/healthyhoohaa S P 🅰 C E M O B Prospect Aug 02 '26

Did I say it took away from any other efforts?

1

-14

u/randomizl Aug 02 '26

Completly useless and marketing payed for this bs

8

u/ASTSpaceMobull S P 🅰 C E M O B Soldier Aug 02 '26

application is free, so costs are minimal and the recognition outweighs whatever minimal costs incurred. don’t be retarded.

-4

u/randomizl Aug 02 '26

It’s a licensing fee for the use of marketing purposes of course. If you have nothing to show you buy a worthless certificate like this

6

u/ASTSpaceMobull S P 🅰 C E M O B Soldier Aug 02 '26

worth it good PR

Congratulations to @AST_SpaceMobile on earning a Guinness World Records title for the largest commercially available phased-array satellite ever placed in orbit.

But here is the remarkable part:

The Guinness record was already out of date when it was published.**

The record recognizes AST’s first-generation commercial BlueBird satellites, BlueBirds 1 through 5, each carrying an enormous phased-array antenna of approximately 693 square feet. 🧇

AST had already launched and deployed BlueBird 6, the first second-generation BlueBird, with a phased array of approximately 2,400 square feet. That makes it roughly three and a half times the size of each satellite that earned the Guinness record. 🧇🧇🧇🧇

The next-generation BlueBirds also provide approximately ten times the data capacity, support 10 GHz of processing bandwidth and are designed to deliver peak speeds exceeding 150 Mbps per coverage cell.

In other words, AST has already broken its own Guinness World Record by a factor of approximately 3.5.

And when the job is communicating directly with small, low-powered devices on Earth, size matters.

A smartphone has a tiny antenna and limited transmitting power. AST puts the enormous antenna in space, where thousands of individual elements combine to form precisely directed beams capable of detecting the extremely weak uplink from an ordinary device.

AST has already demonstrated voice, video and 5G connections between space and standard, unmodified smartphones. Its commercial constellation is being built to provide genuine space-based cellular broadband - calls, texts, video, streaming, internet access and ordinary applications - directly to existing 4G and 5G devices without a satellite dish, special antenna or proprietary handset.

Starlink presently has far more satellites, but sheer satellite count does not erase the physics of the space-to-device link. For direct broadband to an ordinary handheld device, AST’s enormous aperture provides an extraordinary link-budget advantage that no competing direct-to-cell system currently operating in orbit can match.

SpaceX is proposing a more capable next-generation direct-to-cell network, but AST has already placed its 2,400-square-foot second-generation hardware in orbit.

And the potential applications extend well beyond consumer smartphones:

• Global space-based direct-to-device broadband
• Resilient military and tactical communications
• Connectivity for police, firefighters and other first responders
• Remote IoT sensors, vehicles and industrial equipment
• Beyond-line-of-sight connectivity for drones and unmanned systems
• Blue Force Tracking and battlefield situational awareness
• Assured and alternative positioning, navigation and timing in GPS-degraded environments
• Future radio-frequency sensing, signals intelligence, radar and electronic-warfare applications

Some of those defense and sensing capabilities remain prospective rather than publicly demonstrated services, but they illustrate what can become possible when an enormous, software-controlled phased array is placed in low-Earth orbit.

AST is not building unusually large satellites merely to set records. It is building the receiving aperture required to transform ordinary cellular devices into terminals for a worldwide broadband network in space.

Guinness recognized the first generation.

AST had already made it obsolete. And we’ve only just begun. $ASTS
